I'm using the Nova theme; and, I'm trying to add a simple JavaScript character counter on my Jamroom site in the control panel. I want the user to see when they have hit the character limit. I'm hoping that this will help keep users from wanting to delete what they post since it seems that users can not delete status updates in Jamroom. I've tried many different types of scripts and none of them work (although they do work offline and on my other web domains). I've also tried just cutting and pasting the raw script in to the page without it effecting the preexisting status update code. Jamroom seems to delete valuable JavaScript from every example that I try.

How do I fix this or at the very least prevent Jamroom from deleting my JavaScript Code?
