Well, we've gotten a taste of the speed improvement with site page load times with the new software, and rather then shooting for February like we previously planned, we are going to move forward sooner then later.
We've already upgraded a handful of servers completely seemlessly. The major change is the moving from apache 1.3.37 to apache 2.2, and moving from php version 4.4.7 to version 5.2.5 (note php4 reaches EOT 2007-12-31). The largest major issue we considered, is some scripts not working with PHP5. But, it turns out nearly all do, and those scripts that do not work on php5 are likely EOT themselves, and should be destroyed or upgraded.
We are going to try to push out updates to the rest of the servers this weekend (likely sunday evening, it takes about 10 minutes). We don't forsee any downtime except for a minute or two while rebooting apache into the new version. Other then that, sites will remain online, and after reboot- should hopefully be considerably faster.
