Development progress on Jamroom 4.2 has been coming along fairly well - I think we're a bit further behind at this point then I thought we would be, but with the number of new features coming in Jamroom 4.2, I'm beginning to think my initial internal "timeline" may have been a bit too aggressive
Almost all of the features in the Jamroom 4.2 kickoff thread are implemented in Jamroom 4.2 at this point - some still have rough edges that need to be cleaned up, but so far there has been only 1 "casualty":
- the "Variable Pricing" (i.e. "Aime Street" pricing, or "pay what you want" pricing) option has been moved to post-Jamroom 4.2, and will be released as a module. I spent a significant amount of time in R&D for this feature, but it just became too complicated once all the variables were in place. So I've placed this on the back burner for now, and it will be coming in a future release of the Payment Pack as a module.
Other then that, Jamroom 4.2 is going to contain a TON of new features that are going to make Jamroom more flexible and easier to manage - as well as allowing much more "hooks" into Jamroom functionality for module designers. Some highlights:
All new User Credit module (part of Payment Pack) - you can run a full "credit" based system based on Credit Actions - i.e. you can "reward" your users with credits for writing reviews, rating items, etc., and then let them spend the credits on your vault items.
All new CSS and Javascript optimizations to make the site (including control panel) load and run faster
Completely rewritten progress meter that works on all browsers, is MUCH simpler (1 file versus 10) and also now shows a progress indicator for when a file has completed uploading, but is going through conversion.
Power Users can select from an allowed list of Jamroom Quotas to create new profiles in.
New ability for ranking system to display what each user on the system is currently doing - including what songs are being listened to, what videos are being viewed, etc.
All new newsletter filters for sending newsletters to specific groups of your users (includes filtering on custom form fields too).
All new module functions for automatically integrating modules with site skins and themes (using new {jr_menu} function) - this should make modules almost "plug and play"
New "Clone Skin" and "Clone Profile Theme" options (on systems where PHP is installed as a CGI) make it super easy to develop a custom skin/theme by properly renaming everything for you to a new name, making it easier to keep your site updated.
The "default" tab in the Nova profile theme can now be selected in the Skin Settings section for Nova.
Missing Smarty functions will no longer "bomb" the template - Smarty has been modified to simply return no output - this really helps if you have integrated a module with a custom smarty function, but have turned off the module.
Plus over a dozen other features, fixes, tweaks and module improvements (the module developer documentation will be updated post Jamroom 4.2 release).
Our goal is to have Jamroom into the hands of the beta team by the end of May - then we're planning a 3 week beta period (that could be shorter depending on the number of issues uncovered in the closed beta) before a general beta release to everyone, so we're almost there.
I want to thank everyone for the feedback we had during the Jamroom 4.2 kickoff - it is really appreciated
I'm excited to get Jamroom 4.2 released - not much longer and it will be here.
would you be able to issue credit insted of actual payout....
thinking for affiliate mod...
say...instead of paying affiliate $$ its the credits instead?
thanks
This was actually an idea that I proposed to apicos (creator of the affiliate mod). I think the question would be for them, being that it involves the mod. Once the new credit system is put in place though, it seems like it would be possible and a logical progression.

This will be Jamroom's coups d'état of all imitators..
