I did that but there is actually a bug in the template if you look in the side_comments.tpl
you need to replace

{$item.comment_profile_id|jrComment_get_profile_url}

with

{$i ...

still same issue unless its comments on the front page causing it from the theme

There seems to be following issues I seem to see with my jamroom 5 install
in my log I keep seeing errors like

invalid search criteria in jrCore_db_search_items parameters - check usage
...

I would say go with it I also been developing paypal solution using restful it does not actually take much editing up the foxycart code to work with paypal.
