gmSubmitGig Jamroom V4 Module

Version 1.0.0 09May2009 Initial Release

About GigMemories

The Global Gig and Event Archive.
Users can archive all the gigs they've been to and upload images, videos, reviews, comments, setlists etc.
Users can also submit gigs to the 'Gig Pool' should they recall a gig but have no further information on it.
Users may browse the Gig Pool and if they find a gig that they have information on, can 'adopt' it and upload their information.
The archive is searchable by users and visitors by artist, venue, location and date.
Each gig has its own set of web pages and forum.
GigMemories is free for all to use and contribute to.

About This Module
When installed on your Jamroom site, this module will allow your users to easily submit their past events to the archive.
All gigs submitted go into the GigMemories 'Gig Pool' and are available for adoption.
All web pages of gigs submitted by your users have a link back to your Jamroom site as the 'Gig Donar'.
All Gig Pool ranking table rows have a link back to your Jamroom site as the 'Gig Donar'.
The link URL and Words are configurable in the your Admin Control Panel.
When submitting their gigs for archive, users can optionally select email notification of their gig's acceptance.

Module Installation
Copy the gmSubmitGig.php file and the modules folder to your Jamroom directory.
Log into Jamroom as admin and you will be prompted to run the integrity check, afterwhich installation is complete.

Module Configuration
Log into Jamroom as admin and enable gmSubmitGig per quota in the quota 'Extra Features' section.
The GigMemories menu item shows in the calendar section of the User Control Panel.
Click on jamroom config, then gmSubmitGig Settings in the modules section.
Enter your System Name and URL. These are the words and link that will show on the GigMemories web pages.

Database Schema
This module adds two fields to your 'settings' table - gm_donar and gm_donar_url - that hold your System Name and URL.
This module adds one field to your 'calendar' table - event_submitted_to_gm - that is a flag to indicate gig submission.

Submission Operation
Any gigs submitted by your users will not immediately show on GigMemories as all submitted information goes into a 'holding table'.
This is an 'anti-flood' measure and initially, all submitted gigs will be manually approved.
To this end, may I request the owner of any Jamroom site that uses this module to advise me of the site System Name and URL so as to make gig approval easier.
Your site's IP address is also collected on gig submission.

Benefits
Your users get a new feature and your Jamroom site gets external links which help its search engine ranking.
GigMemories gets to grow its gig archive.

Thankyou - All comments and suggestions gratefully received - Pa paul@motagator.net

Great work pash Smile You've done a good job putting together the archive site, hopefully this module will help it fill up- while giving other Jamroom sites greater exposure and cross links.

Nicely done Smile

I've found some space on all the GigMemories skin pages for a 160x75 banner, so if anyone is running this module on their site and wants to send me their banner for inclusion, let me know.

Also, if anyone wants me to install this module for them, no probs.

Cheers
Pa

Version 1.0.1 17May2009

Small language file change.
By default, menu item will now show in main and event sections. Delete or rename either /cp/artist_gmSubmitGigMenu.php or /cp/section_event to select one of the other.

Version 1.1.0 05Jun2009

Admin tool added so as to allow admin to upload any artist gigs, regardless of the artist quota setting.

Also, when running the Admin Tool, there will be a module version notice and advice if a more recent version is available.

Sorry for the new version just one day after the previous one, but with the new feature for admin to upload gigs, a few users suggested that to save clicks, one ought to be able to to select multiple gigs instead of one at a time.

So now you have that feature Very Happy

I've also added a link in the configuration section to test your connection to GigMemories.

Thanks

Get them from http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_market&o=browse&category=Jamroom+4+Modules

Future gigs may now be submitted to GigMemories where they are displayed seperately on the website and fed into the 'GigMemories Gig Pool' as they become archive.

This module has been modified appropriately.
