I assume you already know how to create the icons??
And I assume you already know how to code image links in HTML??

So I guess you just want to know where the code is in the Templates needing to be edited??

All the Templates for the Nova Admin are in the "skins/Nova/cp/" directory.
There are only a few templates so finding the word links you want to edit shouldn't be too much of a problem. But if you can't find what your looking for in the Templates, then they may be hard coded in the PHP Core files and I wouldn't mess with them.

You can start by looking in the following Templates.......
menu.tpl
menu_top.tpl
header.tpl

Not sure which words your hunting for, but this should give youi a start.

"Custom Buttons" but not necessarily the Admin Menu ???

If your using the Jamroom "Custom Button" Function,
There is no way that I know of to insert an icon in place of the text when using that function.
You would need to code something custom..............

I believe the Admin Menus are generated by PHP Core files using the Templates in the CP Directory. And it gets more complicated because the process that creates the Menu also has to consider the users status, meaning Admin, Artist or User and display the correct buttons and functions for each person.

But messing with the Core files is not advisable.............
