Trying to:

* Have an Artist create an account
* Allow that Artist to invite a specified number of Fans
* Fans respond to the invite email, create account and view Artist Page
* Fans can only view the Artist profile, not edit it
* Fans can only see Artist Profiles that they're a fan of
* Fans can be a invited by multiple Artists

Updated this thread to show what I've tried...

I set Private Profile to Yes (If this is set to 'Yes', then only viewers that are a Fan can view your profile)

If this option is turned on, then how do I get more Fans? It will not be visible to non-Fans, so nobody can become Fans. Hence the need for the 'Invite Fans' option.

Also, I'd like to make the Private Profile option mandatory. Not an option for Artists. Force all Artist Profiles to be Private.

Did I find a Catch 22?

Brian,

Do you think that we might get a 'Invite Fan' option soon? That way private accounts can invite new members.

I don't think this is a bug, as it seems to be working exactly the way its suppose to...
I believe the purpose of setting a profile to private is to not allow access to anyone. But if you have originally set your profile to public instead of private in order to obtain fans, then you will need to keep it public in order to get additional fans.

The only bug I see might be that fans can access a profile that has been set to private.

But the "Invite Fan" option might be good to have.........

Is it possible that we can have this soon?

I don't think "Private Profile" is the correct option in this case.

What I would do would be to create an artists template that checked if the users was a fan or not.

so anyone can come to the page. private profile is not checked. It is a public profile, but show different content depending on whether the person viewing the page is a fan or not.

if($person_is_a_fan){
//show the full profile
}else{
// just show some very basic info and the become a fan button.
}

That should get you to the situation your looking for.

I appreciate your input, but that's not quite the direction I was going with this.

Jamroom behaves absolutely incredible with the whole Private/Fan system. On a Jamroom site, there are 100's of areas that list all artists, songs, videos, events, etc... When you're not a fan, there's no way to see a private artist, or their songs, their events, etc... complete non-disclosure. You have no idea they even exist on the site. All ranking lists, everywhere, are filtered etc...

That's what I'm after, not just allow or disallow the artist profile page. I have manually added fans to artists and got this to work perfectly. Just need the 'Invite Fan' for Private Profiles option.

I have a full 'normal' Jamroom site that has nearly 400 artists on it. But I'm creating a second site with a bit of a different twist. A site that each group (artists) can only be seen by their own members (Fans). And I wanted the 'admin' of that group to be able to invite the members (Fans). As posted in the OP of this thread.

I think I'm understanding what your saying, im just not familiar with how the invite system works now. So right now, when an artist has his profile set to "Private Profile" and an invite is sent out, the receiver of that invite is not able to accept the invite? There is no "Accept Invite" link button in the mail? (but if there was one the issue would be resolved?)

For that one could you go into phpmyadmin for the database and find the table that holds the "private profile" option, set it to default to the ON status. then go into the /skins/yourskin/cp/form.cfg file and add the "Private Profile" option to the

Code
disabled_form_fields = ""

section to hide that field from the users to stop them from being able to un-private it.
