My bands are having a hard time uploading their videos after they download them from their youTube accounts.

My jamroom system only supports FLV MOV and WMV (I am running core 4.2.5 and I am not so sure the MOV actually works...)

I just tell them to download their videos in a FLV format and they say that option is not available in their youTube account.

What should I tell them to do or what should I do???

The Flash Video Players in Jamroom will only play FLV Files.......
To play "MOV" or "WMV" files requires the file to be played back using the media players on the users computer designed to play those files. Meaning to play a "WMV" file would require the user to play back the file using Windows Media Player from his computer. Once the file is clicked on a message should popup asking which program he wants to use to play the movie and your user whould need to choose Windows Media Player, which is not an ideal way for your users to use your site.

So you have a few options...........
(1.) Have your users covert the downloaded MOV or WMV file to FLV before they upload it using a converter program.
(2.) Install one of the YouTube Modules from the Jamroom Marketplace.
(3.) Install the Jamroom Conversion Server from the Jamroom Marketplace which will automatically convert all uploaded video files to FLV
(4.) Wait for Jamroom 5 which is suppose to have an add-on automatic file conversion option.

I looked at the paYTSeamless module and JamroomYouTube - both seem to only allow users to embed youTube videos in their profiles -- did I miss something?

Yes I believe thats the way those modules work.....

When you embed a YouTube Video on your site it will play using its own YouTube Player from your site. The Modules offered in the Jamroom Marketplace just make it easier for your users to use the YouTube embed code to put the videos in their profiles and play them back in a YouTube player from your site. But other than the options in #1 or #3 that I posted above, I don't know any other way to actually upload a YouTube Video and have it play directly from your site through some kind of a player.

Thanks Greg. There is a plethora of converters out there -- any suggestions as to what I should recommend to my bands for PC and MAC users? I appreciate your help.

I know there are all kinds of converters out there........
Some cost money and some are free, but I don't want to recommend anything as I really haven't done any research on them. Basically your guess would be as good as mine.... Wink

Okay, we keep going on this thread...

I am using the Wondershare Video Converter ultimate now. I am able to play the converted FLV files on my computer with video and sound. So I uploaded them, and the jamroom player just plays the sound, no video...

Any ideas?

It sounds like the conversion didn't go correctly. Your conversion player on your computer may be able to play it ok, but an online flash player may not. Do you have a link to where you have the video uploaded so I can see what its doing??

Thanks,
Greg -

There is something wrong with your conversion.
I downloaded the video from your site (dont ask how) and tried playing it back in two other (flv) Video Players I use (Adobe Media Player) and (Liquid Studio FLV Player) on my computer and all that would play is the music. Something seems to have went wrong in the conversion but doesn't seem to affect it being played back in your converter program. If you've converted the video to FLV and it won't play back in other FLV Players, then something is wrong with the conversion.

I would double check your settings and try again........... Wink

I looked for FLV format specs and could not find them in your docs... hence

I can set the encoder. default H264 or FLV encoder (tried both, with the below defaults, no cake)

I can set the frame rate. default 30fps
I can set the resolution, default 640*360
I can set the bit rate. default 1200 kbps

More options for the audio but that seems to work Very Happy

OK I just downloaded your Wondershare program and tried things myself.
The default settings for that program seems to create a HD FLV video in H264 format and wont work in standard Flash Players. You need to change the Video Encoder settings in that program to FLV and all the other settings should be set to default.

I converted a Youtube video here so you can see that it does work.

And I hope you understand that conversion program isn't free......... Confused

The conversion server that plugs into jamroom to convert any uploaded videos from any format to FLV so it will play:
http://www.jamroom.net/Jamroom4_Cluster_Server_Features

uses ffmpeg to do the conversions.

You could try that for your conversions.
