I think it's going to be jQuery 2 dropping support for internet explorer. It's going to be so interesting watching that one pan out. Might take more than a year though.

Haven't heard about that one, what's that all about? Have you got a link?

is it a wish list? "jamroom usage exceeds wordpress." would be nice.

But so would:
* browser makers and browser standards creators finally all agree. OR
* DNT actually does what it says. http://whatisdnt.com
* there is now a video format that works on all browsers and devices.

It can be anything you want it to be.

2015-ish?

I think the two have already merged to a large degree (apart from the obvious shite browser of course), and the acceleration is kind of fun. The process does seem to almost make sense now. It's pretty much a certainty that nothing like ie will ever happen again, so that's good progress.

That's a great link, lovely images! Highly informative too. Where can I buy a dog pipe like that?

Fingers crossed on that one. Maybe as a byproduct of the jr5 conversion service? Camera to computer works pretty well nowadays, distribution will always be a corporate battleground I expect. And there's not much that anyone can do about that.

And no more Creative Suite from Adobe - they are concentrating on Creative Cloud web subscriptions to their software instead. That's quite a big story for anyone who has spent a lot of time using photoshop and illustrator over the years.

They win some, they lose some.

Same corp different target market:

Won't be the story of the year, but that would be really interesting tied into the workings of a configurable cms.

It's only July, but I'm moving my money to the NSA/GCHQ surveillance thing as web tech story of the year. It's going to be hard to beat that one. But I wouldn't be surprised if something did.

The fallout is particularly interesting, and watching the wriggle is definitely fun if you are that way inclined (probably thoroughly depressing if you are not), but the denouement will inevitably be a damp squib - any good denouement would trump it as web tech news story of the year, so the game is still on.
