I have problems with SPAMMERS
My members are being sent "Spam" emails - I have tried to block the IP number in the admin but it is not helping.

Banning an IP Address will prevent a user with that IP Address from logging into your system - it will not prevent the user from viewing your site. To ban an IP Address from your site completely, consider using a Deny directive in a .htaccess file placed in your web

As you know I have no idea how to use the "DENY" switch..

Once you have identified the bad ip address block all of them so for example:

lets say the bad ip address is using 123.12.12.34

youll take care of every computer on their network by doing this:

order allow,deny deny from 123.12.12 allow from all

I wouldent at all be concerned with a user having the same network address as the bad ip address.
If they are you should ask them why someone on their network is spamming your site.

So block the entire access from their address

Anyways this is how you do it from the server side. Hope this help you out.

Blocking IP Addresses rarely helps since they use proxies and the ip changes. I am assuming you are using JR4 since JR5 resolved that issue.

Are you using recaptcha vs captcha? Recaptcha required some minor changes in JR4 with the keys if memory served but that helped cut down spammers a lot. Do a search on here and you should find some posts about this topic also.
