Can I change the photos section so that when you click on it, it will show a list of availible categories and when you select a category it will show all the photos in that category instead of all the photos of the categories on the same page?

Yes you would be able to do this. You would use ranking to generate your list of categories (see how it works generating the list of genres from the link in the dropdown). Each item in the list would be a link through to photos of a specific category, again by using ranking.

Check out ranking in the docs:

Thanks,

Got the photo categories working in the main gallery, but I would also like to have photo categories in the artist's pages under the photos menu.

I don't completely understand how the pages in the artist directory are created but for photo's (using the standard template Cobalt) it seems to a combination of
photo_list.tpl for the layout and design and jamroom-theme.inc.php for the variables.

How should I go about to change the neccesary files so that when a new artist joins his photo.php will be created to that it will look what photo categories the artist has and show those categories, and then when you click on the category show the photos in that category.

The most importent part that I would like to know is how to ensure that the artist's photo.php is able to use the database and how if statement and so on when it is created.

Thanks
