ok so I'm looking into using either the EVO template or the Proton Template

With the Evo template will I still need to purchase the Payment Pack from Jamroom in order for the downloads addon template they offer to work?

Also will the subscription system work in EVO template also?

Yes - the EVO template is just a template set - it does not provide the actual underlying functionality of the Jamroom scripts.

Yes - the subscription system for the most part is in the Control Panel, so it is rendered in whatever Control Panel style you have selected.
