"To use the jamroom database or not to use the jamroom database, that is the question."

Im building a advertising campaign tracking module that does not _need_ to use of the info in the jamroom database.

It does need to have a database, but im going back and forward between using another database on the server or blending the tables into the current jamroom database.

Thoughts please.

my current thoughts are:
good reasons for using the jamroom database:
* easier installation and setup of the module.
* access to the data from other future modules
* data could be more easily displayed in public areas of the site.

good reasons for NOT using the jamroom database:
* advertising campaign data is for the site admin and there should be no need to show this to the customers.
* advertising campaign data brings in information from other servers, this data could be tainted so keeping it in another database adds another level of security to keep the jamroom data clean.

If you are implementing it for Jamroom, I'd put it in the Jamroom database. I know of people that use the Jamroom database for both Jamroom and message boards (just using a different prefix). You could always give things a different prefix if that's what you need.

I'd recommend using the Jamroom database as well - that way you can use the built in Jamroom database functions without the need to roll your own.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, it does help.

im going down that path now. the schema.php is set up.

the concern i was having was mainly that things like the 'referer' is being stored in the database and since this is info taken from other servers i was/am concerned about security issues and SQL injection.

so the main concern and reason for thinking that a separate database would be an idea was that just in case the tracking data was compromised then it would not screw up the jamroom installation.

Ill just have to make sure its properly checked.
