I'd like to see there be a way to add multiple customized voting criteria. And admin could decide how much percentage weight to give each voting criteria. For example; 'most original', 'most commercially viable', etc. whatever voting polls admin wants to create for each battle. I hope I explained this well enough to be understood...

I guess instead of just a song or a video, members could vote for their favorite artist between 2 or more selected artists.
Users would visit the artist profiles and listen to all of their music, videos, photos to decide who they like more.

Just another option for the site admin to pick from.
Not a must have though.... Just a thought.

Work is coming along well on this - I would say it is 75% complete at this time, and I've added a number of new features I think everyone is going to like in the process, so be watching for the official "release" shortly with a list of all the new things Wink

We are actually running a battle of the bands and hip hop show. Were including video and audio streaming with user voting for each event for artists that are coming from out of town. Were charging $3 for the artists fans to watch the live event and vote online.

Would it be possible to allow embed codes for the video portion of the module? Were using ustream for the video stream (it's free) And, allow a payment option for submitting votes?

If so, this would be a huge tool for us and I would not have to have my developer build one for us.

I think that's already do-able, I'm not sure if the module pages will be written to allow for video, but again, it's possible.

As for monetizing live video, I wish you the best of luck with that! You'd be better off getting sponsorship. I tried charging $3 for my live videos about a year ago, just before the JR subscriptions were updated & fixed. What a nightmare! 1 person signed up & the subscription billed them every day (1-day expiration). That was before the fix. Brian has since straightened that out, but the concept of charging $$$ to watch live video is a risky business at best. I typically get between 150 - 600 viewers watching my live feeds, and that dropped to "1" when I decided I'd charge $3 to watch what I though would be one of my better shows of the year!

I'd really like to know if this works out for you, and I'm really sorry if my comments burst your bubble. Good luck with the battle!

PS... Does Ustream screw up the balance on your audio like it does mine? My left channel is consistantly lower regardless of my settings. I still use WMV for streaming... Better quality hands down, but not browser friendly.

Here's the latest update on what I have added and the latest status:

  • Song, Video, Image and Profile battles are supported
  • Unlimited number of entries per battle
  • Up to 9 rounds per battle
  • You can charge an entry fee for contestants - it integrates into the existing Payment System via the Sponsor Profile
  • Battle Sponsors get a profile - it holds the "entry tickets" for a battle
  • Number of votes per round definable on a per battle/per quota basis
  • Battle rounds can be decided on total votes in battle so far, or total votes in round
  • Restrict battle entries to specific quotas
  • Restrict battle voting to specific quotas
  • Require login to vote
  • Genre/Category based battles
  • Battle "votes" can be either direct votes, "plays/views", or combo of both - the "weight" of each vote is configurable (i.e. you can for example set each "play" of a song to have a point value of "1", while each actual vote that requires a login to have a point weight of "5")
  • Admin can override voting and choose round/battle winners
  • Battle "Purse" (prize) supports splitting - i.e. 70/20/10 would split the battle purse among the top 3 winners @ 70%, 20% and 10% for first, second and third place - as many places as you want as long as it all adds up to 100.
  • 2 new battle ranking modes - "battle_view" and "battle_list" for displaying lists of battles and individual battles in almost any format
  • Advanced play/vote tracking that uses both IP based tracking + cookie tracking to try hard to prevent vote abuse
  • Contestants in the battle cannot vote in the battle.
  • Battle Cloning
  • Automatic round movement based on time in battle
  • Battle "active", "start" and "end" times - this allows you to pre-plan battle kick off times.

My main goal with this module (which is turning out to be a HUGE module) is to try and automate as much of the battle process as possible, while still being very flexible and configurable.

I still have several loose ends to wrap up, but I think it is going to be really good for about 90% of what everyone wants to do, and my hope is that the remaining 10% can be accomplished with some creative template work.

I'm working hard to have it wrapped up in another week or so, so stay tuned Wink

Yes - like usual, during the "beta" period we will offer it for $10 off the normal price Wink

Hope this helps!

If you already purchased the module you will not have to pay again.

Hope this helps!
