Am trying to learn Unix and because I already have the vmware player installed for jamroom development I was thinking of installing Unix on vmware. which unix do you thing will work well with the vmware player?

If you want something close to "unix" use FreeBSD - I'd recommend Linux instead though - you'll get a unix like operating system that will be easier for you to administer...
