How do I set the song preview length in jamroom 5?

put a price on the song and you will get 60 seconds worth. Without that you would need something custom I believe.

the songs all have prices and plays the full length. It is hard to sell mp3s when the visitors can record the songs on there computers

I went in and signed up for foxy cart, added a price on a song and it automatically only played a portion of the song after I set the price and clicked play.

I did not see where this option was available outside of foxycart. I went in to the jrAudio template and there is a function that takes a snippet out of the song and saves it. So this is an option just nothing controls it outside of FoxyCart as far as I can see.

I've never seen this not work - do you have any errors in your activity log? in your System Check does it show "sox" working under the Audio module? How were the prices added to a song? If you go into Modify on an audio file, and add a price (or remove it, then add it again) the preview should be automatically created unless something is not working on your server.

yeah it should be working then. How were the prices added to the songs? Was it on an import? Or was it from the create/modify forms?

they were added both from import and manual

I am still waiting for an answer how to resolve the preview issue playing the entire song instead of say 20 sec. I did everything you recommended and it still don't work .

I think the part to edit is inside /modules/jrAudio/include.php

line 507/960 change the 60 to whatever length you want the preview to be in seconds.

reset cache, integrity check and set a price on the song you want to have limits.

If its free it wont have limits.

Not sure if this is it because I don't want to modify my files and break my site.
so back up your site and know what your doing otherwise I don't suggest playing with your core files.

Use this at your own risk I guess is what im saying. This might not be your solution and there is no options to change this value in your control panel.
