Yeah, a big thanks from me too for the nice "burple" (that's what I call it anyways) flash player for mediakinesis.com!

Thanks a bunch! Now I just gotta get the full size ones in motion, but haven't had time... I spend all my time bug reporting/squashin' and testing on jamroom Laughing

Thanks for the nice comments guys,

Right now Stella and I are testing a new prototype that should stop the average person from stealing your player out of cache to run on their site or using your embeding code to run the player on there site.

In other words, the player will only play if its on your site.

So far its working, but needs more refinement.

PS,
Thanks for the nice comments stella, but the players in those links are not working......... Very Happy

The solution is simple...

Brand it.

But it requires you edit the action script, at the bottom...where you see the menu options. And in the top where you see the player title options...

Other then that, the player will run from the users cache, that's why flash needs to be installed on the end users computer for it to run (since it doesn't actually run from the server like php does).

Cheers!

Branding the player is simple enough, but would require people to edit the actionscript and recompile the player. And that alone won't stop anyone from using your embed code to run the player from their own site using your bandwidth and violating the the artists copyright.

We all know you can't make these things fullproof and totally secure, but we can make the thieves work for it.

So maybe the answer would be a combination of both..........

And as for running the player from your cache...........
The player doesn't work well from cache without a playlist Wink

Thats what the cross domain script is for Wink

bigguy:
What's really cool about the XSPF player is that it actually should block this - since without the presence of a crossdomains.xml file located in your web root, only the local domain can access the player.

Does this not work? I'm not sure Confused

Cheers!

djmerlyn,

I just copied the embed code from this page on my jamroom site...
http://www.soundmetro.com/artists/account/247/Test_Album.php

And placed it in a page on my hosting site here.........
http://www.lafire.net/index-test.php

And this is what Im trying to stop.

P.S.,
I added your embed code from your site too........ Wink

Right, that's what crossdomains.xml is supposed to have something to do with.

Try putting one in your jamroom directory, or flash file directory or web root. I never got any formal documentation about it...of course, its one thing google is short on information for.

crossdomains.xml is "supposed" to prevent remote object connections somehow...

I'm not entirely sure how/if it's supposed to be set up though?

Leave the code there for a minute so I can try a couple things...

I could be wrong but I believe "crossdomains.xml" has something to do with passing data or vairables from one site to another like passing credit card info from your site to the credit card site. And setting up which sites are allowed to receive and pass that data.

I dont think it has anything to do with blocking flash from being embeded on another site.

But I really don't know for sure............

And I'm going to bed right now, so I will leave the site as is till tomorrow for you.

I'll be back on in the morning, so let me know what you find out.

Thanks.......

It's impossable Wink

There is no possable way to prevent it without disabling it completely, because the "client" is "always" the one requesting the file. Not the remote server...nor is there any referrer check available, except perhaps via actionscript, but likely not.

How can you possably block the client, and let them in at the same time?

crossdomains.xml is not flash 6 compatable from what I find in the little available google search results, so that might have something to do with this...

check out this thread, other people can see the flashplayer with the deeplink prevent cookie staff on.

However, I could not see the flashplayer from my job computer, therefore maybe just disable the cookie staff until you get the new flashplayer working.

I don't think I have cookies disabled on my computer........??

But I'm going to be working and testing the embed blocking feature all day today, so I should have something else for you to test later today.
