Shayan, sorry but this is not what SefJam does. Page Titles are entirely different and seem to already be fully supported within Jamroom.

American/JohnyBGoode, support will be for basic installation and operation. If you are running some serious htaccess or rewritemap voodoo and need that to work in parallel that would obviously not be supported. Support will be for Jamroom 3 unless there is a paid for version change. I would not be inclined to support your multiple forum identities, it can only lead to confusion.

The price of the script is £25. If you consider it too expensive then it is very likely that you do not actually need what the script can do for you.

Can we see the insatll docs. How many files is this script. Does it have any open source sub-files. As for the need aspect. No one really needs, but everyone could use .

There are no open source files, the install instructions are in the first post inhtis thread. I think you need to reread it.

And am I to assume that you will be continuing your deliberate harrassment as american rather than johnybgood or jack?

Does it really matter.

"...deliberate harrassment..." Question

the install instructions read as if you have to be a programer to install the files safely.

Well it seems to matter to you in your johnybgood incarnation judging by the signature you use:

Quote:
'Play The Melody' ... don't over-arrange, don't make life difficult. .. play it the simplest way possible.

And yes, speaking personally, it does matter to me. It bothers me that you feel the need to use multiple forum identities. You ask a lot of questions and receive plenty of help. I think you should show the community that helps you the common courtesy of being open and honest in your dealings with them. Logging out and then logging back in again as a different identity a couple of minutes later to try to give the impression that you have a number of people expressing similar points of view does not count as open and honest in my book.

It seems to me that you do this to gain better support on the forum, also to lobby for features, and in the Third Party Products and Support forum to deliberately harrass people providing add-ons. Glancing back over your posts in Third Party I wonder if this is something that you do for kicks or if you genuinely feel offended that anyone could possibly ask a price for anything.

You are the most undesirable potential customer. Please do not attempt to buy SefJam, It is a foregone conclusion that you will fail to be happy with it and that I will not be able to provide any of your multiple identities with the level of pampering support that you seem to need.

As I understand This is a support forum for jamroom. And occasionally we get snake oil salesmen wanting to peddle their wares with inflated prices on scripts that will not last the next full version. I've questioned the price, the support, and the ease of install of your wares. You seem to be offended by it. This reflects on the service aspect of your product. You come across as a ****** *** with an attitude. Are you a Nazi or perhaps an islamic extremist with an attitude towards Americans.. Twisted Evil

Can we make sure this doesn't get out of hand? I'd rather not start deleting posts or anything, so if we can try to focus on the issues/facts and not on the individuals involved, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

I would like to point out that after successful installation of SefJam, in the Admin CP on the Server Details page the check for Jamroom Friendly URLs will state "mod_rewrite does NOT appear to be functioning correctly requires Jamroom Bonus Pack".

This is because the Bonus Pack checks that Friendly URLs are working as Jamroom expects them to. The test fails as these functions have been superceded by SefJam and is not something to worry about at all, mod_rewrite is functioning perfectly but Jamroom does not know about the upgrade.

Please Note: if you see this warning BEFORE you install SefJam, then you should fix the problem before installing, as a failure at a mod_rewrite/Bonus Pack level is not something that SefJam will fix.

The SefJam demo urls have been moved to a subdirectory named jambbb as I currently need the root directory for testing. There are less artists in the subdirectory, but you one should be enough to see that SefJam works equally well in a subirectory as well as the root.

Steve... thanks for the great add on...

there are couple of things that i wanted to ask you about...

is it possible to change the urls from

http://bristol.fm/jambbb/list=Newest+Songs

to something like

http://bristol.fm/jambbb/Newest_Songs or http://bristol.fm/jambbb/Newest-Songs

for me the whole point of rewriting the urls are

1. User Friendly.
2. SEO point of view.

one thing realized over the years dealing with many scripts is that you must keep your urls same if you want to keep your positions in search engines. in some other urls it shows even few other odd characters. so if i am to use i need someway to remove those and also support is really important in this case as jamroom will change over the months, if you could provide some info on how long you'll provide support officially.

I am also looking for someway to work with the titles for those pages. i found some direction but if someone comes up with a hack would be really great.

thanks

Most of the charts and rankings and stuff can have a &replace[]= attribute in the url that is where you can specify the page title. If you search the forums for:

{$REPLACE_0}

or page title replace

you'll find something good.

No you would not be able to make that sort of change - SefJam would see this as the url for an artist called Newest_Songs, not find the artist and send you to the search script. You would be able to change the keyword, if you know what you are doing with mod_rewrite you could make that an additional directory, although this will naturally have a slight negative impact on indexing.

This is what I needed and what led me to make SefJam. For my needs and search engine indexing it does the job perfectly.
+, =, / are necessary characters, their meaning is understood by people and search engines and they have no impact on indexing. If you want something different to SefJam there are other ways of achieving this, you will most likely need to employ a specialist to do this for you.

SefJam will be supported through your install and will be updated within the timeframe of Jamroom 3 unpaid updates and the life of Apache in its current form. I will only support a straight install, not customising it and not mashing SefJam with other solutions/serious htaccess customisations/windows. Once working you will not need ongoing support.

As Kyle has pointed out, page titles are easily dealt with. They might appear to be related to the rewritten url, but are actually completely unrelated.

titles are actually another big factor if you are thinking of getting indexed in SEs. one repeating word in your title counts higher than any other keyword found in the context. but anyway... i am not saying you can do it by MOD Rewrite or related to it. I think if you think of adding it in this script it will evantually become a very good SEO script, which is the main objective of it, isn't it! Even though I love Jamrrom, i think it can do much more on Search Engine Optimization. SEO addons has an unique demand for any given website script, specially for Jamroom.

I must thank you for bringing in such a hack. how many files do you have to mod to set it up? if sefjam does the work... it will be one of the best 3rd party addon.

SefJam does not, and never will, have any functionality to alter your page content through the template system. Page titles will never be part of SefJam, there is more than adequate support for anything you wnat to do with page titles already built into Jamroom.

Artist URLs work by uploading files, you may need to make some changes to the htaccess code if you are running Jamroom in a subdirectory or have renamed your members directory. To gain full benefit you will wnat to edit your templates as well, but this is not necessary.

All other links will require you to make changes to the links in your templates. There are replacement menu template files which save you doing this if you are using Cobalt.
