understood im just saying a jr for dummies version that requires lil to no customization or configuration ..thats limited not as poerrful but is simple enough for even those who are confused by wordpress would make it alot more accessible to smaller hobbyists who want an easy to put up and forget aboiut type site

im talking about sites that never expect more then a hundred members are very limited in scope and dont have ppl really dedicated to working on it they just want a click install and go solution
a no thrills version u pick 1 of 5 prepackaged themes check a few options boxes and thats it

not something id want but i know thered be 90% more users if they didnt have to think at all
sure thier sites might suck and never go nowhere but alotta ppl care more about easy
setup in minutes no need to spend mucyh time on it at all and just have it up
thats what they wantr more then the ability to grow a hughe vibrant community


id hate to see jr get that dumbed down but at the same time i could see a jr for idiots version becoming 1 of the most popular solutions for simpole small time networks

you need to hire a woman cause someone on your staff deserves to get kissed for making such an awesome platform ...and no offence you arent pretty enough


jk but seriusly youve got a winning product that absolutely could outshine the rest ..
the only thing holding u back is that it requires learning or a lil skill and the majority that want to jump in and run a social network want a few click configuration and drag and drop design wich i know also limits what they can do drastickly

maybe you should in the future consider a jrlite and jrpro
the lite version has a basicly out of the boix functioning site with the sitebuilder and simple admin interface then the jr pro gives u everything and anything

seriusly a game changer

if i could offer this to my members as an option it will really be huuuuge i know many will close up thier shops and move onto my site with them

in 1 of the vids i saw something abioyt proxima being a profile on jr with its domain mapped to its profile

hows this done i know some of my members have shops already that they might want to apply that domain tothe shoops here also some musiciuans have sitews they might want to redirect those domains

my freind tenali hedgehog runs www.musicfromtherainbow.org on wordpress and id like to offer a profile on my site as a better alternative

i didnt see any modules that alow the domain mapoping so how exactly7 is this done

questions about the "profile to import forums into"

when adding things to the profile_menu.tpl that adds them to all profiles

i guess the option id want is something like create a "mainforum" quota that only lists forums and pages
then in the menu tpl enclose those extra items in a {if quota="mainforum" type statement (not sure of exact syntax) . would that do the trick and only add those items to the menu if the profile quota matched the if condition

woulkd commetchat login as u klogin to thye site and ijtegrate with your profile lkike a view profile option if u click thye name
i dont like cometchats full bar with added crap like games etc
and hated that there was a monthly feee if u had more users
what i was hoping for was something fully integrated using yoiur own server i lkooiied at many last night some used the fikle system others the database some required a jabber serfver running on your server etc the prob was most were hideously ugly and were geared toewards interacting with customkers and visitors
like a hi how may i helkp you buy our stuff type things not an internal network chat


something based off of comentchat but tweaked to seem more integrated instead of added on might work

most ning sites rely heavily on a chat module some more then others

but heres my list of feature requests and i encourage all other ning refugees to add to or debate on each so we can have the best options available to fit all our needs
and jr team i would say that all other fonctionalities should be perfected before tyou even begin thinking about this (also if at all possible i'll try to find someone who can help me develop it ourselves so if i can manage that thenyour off the hook)

ok my dream chat would include
a docked chat at the window bottom and/or on page (option to use 1 or the other or both) possibly with a "pop out" option to open the chat in a seperate window from the site

a main "network chat" room a (optional) freinds/followers room or if not room the ability to filter the network chat to operate as a followers only chat
a privAte message instant message type thing (opens a private chat window)

smily support

optional in chAt image and vid support (using the urlscanner module to convert supported links to emnbeded vids)(including links from within the networks vids)

and an optional "guest chat' where logged out non members can still inreract with members if you choose to enable that option

i know thats alot to ask for and to expect
so a very basic no frills chat 1st then extend its capabilities later

hmm wondering if an "active profile" chat would encourage alot more activity as bands/shops/ whatever might spend more time on chatting with thier fans/customers
but then again those might have too much "dead air" time to be worthwhile ..

though for very busy fan sites where multiple ppl manage a profile and thats the norm it might be a worthwhile option to some



note: the aboves more then is needed, more then ning offered more then were used to ..just every option i could think of that might be nice to have

a stripped down no thrills version however is kinda an essential tool for ning users

oh forgot 2 things 3 really the chat/online list /private chat indows if docked should be collapsable like nings is now
private chats should "pop up' (not pop out just extend from the colapsded state) on 1st message
and there should be an optional audio alert of messages and a vissual clue of new messages (like the colapsed bar "blinks' and a numeracal number of new messages
