MySQL performance

Installation and Configuration

run the mysql tuner script
the more databases you add that require more ram, more buffers and cache space etc the more important it is to do tuning

if all your sites are compatible upgrade to mariadb
the 1stseveral days you will think it was a mistake but after running the tuner a few times and folowing the suggestions you will have better performance

my many issues with upgrading and possible fixes?

Using Jamroom

tbdere are many more issues i didnt screenshot i didnt want to stay in maintenance mode as there was no way to fix it by css
its a fundamental design flaw

1 like i have no construction kit tab in old version in new version i have no sitebuilder anything anywhere!
2 there are 2 mystery menu 'ghosts' umpty buttons that are barely there
3 this is the design flaw by forcing everything to be in a tab container whether you use tabbed containers or just 1 widget ontop of another you get a nesting of "item" instances
4 too many css class changes so tab container tabs lose styling
5 tabbed tab containers are the only things left out of a container

now screenshots 1 and 2 are new version 3 and 4 old version
notice in ss 1 the title widget (wich has no title only an h1 taged title) is in a item-first - the weird menu items that dont belong there
also see how each widgets inside a containing widget space
ss 2 see how the tabs are no longer styled and are no longer contained in a container

further down all the widget heights were all messed up because of class changes that can be fixed with css ofcourse but the items inside items cannot

so here is how i think it can be fixed
scrap the automatticly adding wigets to containers wether tabbed or not go back to the old system where you have to add a tab container tom a layout space then add widgets to it (you can then select tabbed or not tabbed)

that will do away with the items in items issue that is impossible to fix
where possible keep the same class names

i love love love site builder .. and i want to see it succeed and come out of beta

but this is essential to that that these issues be fixed

top priority
ghost menu items
revert to adding widgets directly, not into containers and adding containers then adding widgets to them and not be forced to add widgets into containers
you dont have to change back to old class names since some ppl are using the new class names just add the old ones back in in addition to new ones

if you do those couple changes...wich i do not think will affect anyone already using it since they styled around the forced containers the containers wont need to be removed.. just not mandatory

and i dont know why im not getting the construction kit, or in new version the sitebuilder menu

i do have a dev site if you are willing to help me figure a way around this

please do something about profile comments! they are outta control!

Suggestions

ok the screenshot says it all
but this says it even better

the before comments part of my page is pretty big but look where the slider is when you reach the comments
thats just crazy

heres a few suggestions
limmit the number of comments (maybe let us set the number per profile? or globally) and have a see all comments link at the bottom to see a paginated comments page
so no more then say 30 comments per page
you could alternately do an ajax pagination but im not sure crawlers follow the ajax pagination i sorta think they dont

either way its insane having your whole page taken over by comments like that
i think having a few of the newest then a link to the entire comments list page (paginated) makes the most sense

Installation and Configuration

not sure if you did something in b7 to fix this
it still seemed slow but didnt timeout i saw the sort was taking 15 secs
so i drasticly increased sort_buffer_size and so far seems that sped it up but stay tuned for 24 hours testing
