having a nightmare of a time designing and need suggestions

now im no stranger to designing i can write css animations in my sleep.. but after coming to jamroom im having trouble doing anything at all
im in the new ning to jamroom group i was very happy wwith ning 3 when it came out and still am but they are taking way too long to finish it
so im test moving here
my ning sites are www.dreadlockssite.com is the2.0 and http://ww3.dreadlockssite.com is the mobileresponsive 3.0
ww3 has a hell of alot of css but the majority of it was done in a day with some tweaking since i mean it was done enough to be ready to launch if the vids and events were addded
a year and 1/2 later they still arent so i was going to try jamroom as i liked some of what i heard
but in the time it took me to do most of that site i got nearly nothing done on here even though i worked nonstop for 18 hours
most of that timespent trying to fix simple thinjgs that should have been easy
like in elastic i uploaded a background.. wich applied itself to the header footer and wrapper and html and i think something else too.. in css in the template sand i tried making it fixed and stretched to full page in css that didnt work i deleted it in the images and it wouldnt go away i deleted every reference in every template and css file and it wouldnt go away

the craziest thing is the only thing that made it go away shouldnt have had anything to do with it
out of desperation after so many hours i started clicking random resets
the background color for "info logs' in admin logs css rest it and made it go away

frustrated i tried the new site builder beta
made a few menu items and panels and widgets all easy peasy but then tried changing the logo that says change this logo... and it wouldnt change it would upload id see it there i click select and save and it disapeared..
i tried 10 times
so gave up
went back to elastic got my logo up lil tallerthen default so i tried adjusting the header size instead of alowing you to imput a number only gives you 10px incriments and i perfect my sites down to a single pixel tolerence so that was no good so i go to fcss to fix it hbut thats not working as those controls take priority i guess
argh so lets try the other free template upload my logo and its all distorter ..yuck and upload a file to replace that big image ..but that doesnt replace it

so here i am thinking that even with pretty good css skills im getting nowhere getting nothing done

so heres where i need some advice
you see my sites www.dreadlockssite.com and http://ww3.dreadlockssite.com you see im in need of a huge social network with forums being primary photis blogs secondary i have a shops.dreadlockssite.com and dating.dreadlockssite.com as parts of my network so id love the on profile shops for our thousands of crafters and musicians

but i look at all the premium skins and they all look like they are only for bands except 1 photography

so my question is seeing what im working towards ..more like my 3,0 ww3 site with more added like the shops etc
what skins would you suggest as a starting point that will give methe functionality i need
and be very tweakable in the design ..
im vedry detail orientated and will style every tiny detail (if you saw what i did with the tinymce editor on the 3.0 youd flip out..1st and only site ive ever seen to style the text editor to that degree

so please make some suggestions on where to start since i already blew alot of money on a huge server upgrade planning on moving to jr but now just finding it so frustrating
i dont mind paying for a skin if it will work for me

1 issue you cant change the skin logo or background or anything it deletes them if you try to make active, love the panel menu and widget system ..in theory
its great for designing a layout but if you cant edit the style and look its not very functional even as a beta more an alpha.

it has alot of promise once completed

i am having multiple issues with the site and marketplace
issue 1
i was looking at the sitemap module and wanted to get more info on its functionality and it said "you must be logged in to comment' i click it log in and go back and im logged out again, im logged in on the module list and profile and forum but not on the module detail page so cannot get questions answered

next i went to look at info on the sitebuilder beta itried the download modules buttons wich only kicked me to my profile i tried the link to the info on thed entire bundle wich gave me just options to subscribe as a vip member ...wich i did spending 30 bux only to still get that subscribed as vip when i click the link again

and finaly an issue with the skin editor just editing the header hight to accomadate a slightly taller logo, the options for height are like 10 px diference each with no options to just write in a value..im a perfectionist when it comes to site styling and need control to the exact pixel values
and im thinking if i edit the css directly through ftp these may get overwritten with updates is that correct

another possible issue but maybe not
the system check still says that ffmpeg is not working but thereason is that its at a diferent location then the 1 the stystem check lists
its at /usr/bin/ffmpeg
instead
since its installed on theserver and functioning even if the system cyheck isnt recognizing it because of the location...will it still work

@brian or @paul having a lil website issue but maybe you can answer a question about a module.
im looking at the sitemap module and it says you must be logged in to comment i click it login and go back and still says the same thing im logged in on marketplace list but not on the item detail and cant comment it
so mky questions on this module are
1 does it list every page or only feature level pages
does it update on the fly as in as new contents added its added to the sitemap
does it alow priority and change feequency by feature
if it doesnt update on the fly must it be manualy clicked to update or setup a cron job

right now i use inspyder sitemap crawler wich isd awesome but on ning i have to gave asemi slow crawl rate so an update takes like 10 days and if i have a net outage or need to reboot sometimesit wont update for a month even 2
so if icould have a server side sitemap that lists all 1.5 million pages is customizable for exclusuins priorities change frequencies etc that would be a dream come triue


1 other question are all the skins responsive grid
and are embeded vids in posts responsive thats 1 thing on ning 3 that i had to create a wrapping viv and css to make them responsive

thats exactly what i assumed
it took a lil playing around to figure it out however
and i didnt feel confy increasing max mem over 5 gigs since i had 8 gigs and other sites running

i am findingtheres a real learning curve bvetween this and ning
but the confusionsgot me digging around
i watched a vid on the new beta site designer type module that alowsyou easy layoutcontrol still looking for that
and seeing dozens of paid modules id want to add above the ning bundle
but holding off till iu figure the rest out and geta lil styling done

ok for anyone whos trying to increase the low upload file size limitys i managed to get mineto 1/..22 gigs
noite my servers got 8 gigs ram so i can get away with setting higher limits]
to get 1.22 g i had to set
post_max_size to 3000m
memory_limit to 5000m and max_upload_filesize to 3000m
that gaveme 1.22 g max uploads setting in core quotas

the reasoning is theres overhead and there might be some simultanius large uploads
to get to the full 3 gigs id most likely need 16 gigs ram on the server and 12 gig memory limit

i will absolutely consider that for a future upgrade

note i found i needed to increase memory limit as well i increased memory limit from 512m to 5000m
however this only increased the max upload to 200m wich was thesetting for max post not max file

also i tried setting the memory limit to no limit wich in server php config said should be -1 however that in system chech said file limit was -1 b

im going to test increasing the post limit to 30000m too to see if that overrcomes the limit

1 last question wich is a important 1 for me
during install the system check had me increase the max post and max file uploads in php
i increased these drasticly to 200 m for posts and 3 g for files
the reason being i want to alow longer full hd quality vids
however the script has a maxupload of 128 m wich for vids is patheticly low and is only 28 m higher then nings useless vid limits on ning we were limited to low res 10 min vids and even my webcam vids i had to drasticly reduce the quality
when i do youtube vids they are often 1-2 gigs and thats at 20 min average
i want to at least alow 2 gigs i8 set it to 3 assuming very fewwould reach that limit and i want itto be somewhat unlimmited

is there a way to modify the core file to overcome that limit
