Also getting feedback on lousy db performance making the site slow. Looking for alternative host immediately. Might want to hold off on posting TheChocolateLife as a new site as visitors may attribute performance to software, not hardware.

Context sensitive menu in Tiny MCE editor?

This is not working for me at all on a MacBook Pro with any combination of command keys and trackpad presses. I got my first inquiry from a member already about how to add images to a Group discussion.

At this point I am happy to look into adding the button to the TinyMCE editor.

Guidance?

Have to move off Arvixe NOW -- Linode? Digital Ocean? Other?

The new TheChocolateLife.com is up and running and there are people using it -- which means that the database server performance is truly awful. In fact, the first message I woke up to this morning was, "Whoa, dude, the new site is waaaay slow!"

At this point I know I need to move to an upgraded server and I don't know that they offer any better db performance with Arvixe's upgraded server packages.

I see you moved on to Linode and Digital Ocean. I have never managed a cloud server so looking for a little input/advice here (and maybe a little help making the move as quickly as possible as an FTP down and back up is going to be painful) as I made the Arvixe choice based on your recommendation).

Otherwise, people seem to be happy with the new site and the only design issue I have to resolve is a menu colors issue on mobile devices.

UX observation - keep tag cloud context

@Michael -

I don't understand why you can't keep the other tabs visible and available when you click on the Tag Cloud tab - "just" put it in a panel inside the tab rather than having the URL point to some new page.

"All" is shorthand (in this case) for "All Da Faqs." The Forums tab shows all the Forum posts where there is an entry tagged with that tag. If there were a Blog tagged I would expect to see a Blogs tab, and so on.

Which is what you say will happen. That's the expected behavior. What I am saying is that I don't want those other tabs to disappear when I click on the tag cloud tab, making it easier to select one of the other tabs should I click on the tag cloud tab.

Currently, clicking on the tag cloud tag takes you to another page, which is what tabs are supposed to keep the user from having to do. I expect (and most users would expect) that clicking on a tab does not remove all of the other tabs.

This is on my list to start to work on in the next week or so.

I am most interested in seeing if I can get this to work using SiteBuilder on my clone of the jrNingja skin. I will also need to copy the CSS from the profile menus. Question -- how will that interfere with the drop down (hover) sub-menus?

Yes. it was a DNS cache issue. restarting fixed the problem

jr_jruser_item_key shows me table structure (which I know is what I asked for):

If I wanted to look at the entire contents of a single member record?

Changing sign-up form

I want to use existing database fields (e.g., country) for this where I can as I want the data from new members to go in the same fields as members from Ning.

I know I have to use the db admin tool to see the structure of the table ... but which table am I looking for?

You can add mine to the list tomorrow now that DNS is working. I will be sending out the email to members (via Mailgun - got that working yesterday) later tonight. There are still changes I want to make to the new member sign-up form so that I capture data into the right fields of the member database so they can be displayed on the profile.
