Changing default image sizes in Home Page Galleries, Profiles

Ning To Jamroom

The default sizes are way huge for my taste. Is there a way to change them?

I would make a lot of sense for it to be a settable property in ACP in :

Media > Image Support
Media > Image Galleries
Profiles > User Profiles

My guess is that the sizes are set in the code somewhere but it's not intuitively obvious where they are set.

TIA,
:: Clay

Feature Request :: Add New Item from section header on home page

Ning To Jamroom

On the home page, to the right of "Latest Gallery Images" and "Blogs" and "Events" -- every category for which the admin gives users the ability to create new content - enable members (visible when logged in) do it right from there by adding an "Add New" to the right of "All" rather than requiring users to go to the page or to their profile to do it.

Site Builder Question - Adding Code to a Widget

Ning To Jamroom

I am delving into using Site Builder.

Finally got it to show itself up (had to revert to the default template) - I'd been playing with index.tpl in the template editor.

Trying to add "Groups" to a widget using Code - just cutting and pasting the "Groups" code from index.tpl and getting an error "You have entered an invalid value for "Code" - value must be printable characters with the following allowed HTML tags: span,strong,em,a,b,u,i,p,div,br,img,h1,h2,h3,h4,pre,hr,ul,ol,li."

I am having trouble understanding how this works and am at a loss to find the documentation. Sorry if I missed something obvious that someone else has posted else where in the forum.

Member Credential Migration

Ning To Jamroom

Paul -

Thanks for the heads up. I will mention this to members in the email I send to them before doing the migration.

I am assuming that the Ning passwords are nicely salted and hashed (and not with corned beef) before safely being stored away in the db. But you never know ... they've done some pretty silly things in the past. And the present, for that matter.

Member Credential Migration

Ning To Jamroom

Before I do a final update of my Ning Archive export I want to let my members know what to do before I put the site into maintenance mode for the migration.

What is the process for migrating passwords? If they are not carried over then I want to send an email to members telling them what to expect.

Will they receive an email automatically when the import is complete? Do I need to manually send one?

What's the process step-by-step?

TIA,
:: Clay

Skin Design Questions

Ning To Jamroom

As the Ningja skin has some capabilities not in other skins ...

After the import will Events and the main (home page) discussion Forum appear?

I want to delete and move some of the content areas on the home page. Ning has a visual editor to do this. If Jamroom has one I have missed it completely and there are some other capabilities of Ning (and WordPress) that I don't see in Jamroom.

I want to replicate, to some extent, what is currently at www.thechocolatelife.com

I don't want the trio of "Latest" blocks (profiles, music, and videos) on the front page at all (not doing music).
I don't want the Leaderboards in the right column (Top)

I want the "About" block to be the top block in the right column, not full width.
I need a "Member Marketplace" block for ads (Broadstreet) right under the "About" block.
I want the "Latest Photos" block directly below the "Member Marketplace" block.
I want the "Activity" block directly below the "Latest Photos" block.
I want my main Ning home page discussion Forum where "Activity" is now.
I want the Ning home page Blog section directly below the the main Forum.

UPDATING THE LOGO IMAGE IN THE HEADER

I uploaded a much larger image than the 180x150 that I see in the CSS (in Firebug). The image gets resized and squashed. I have been looking through ACP / Skins / Style and I don't see anywhere where the height and width property of the logo are set. They are not overriden when I upload an image.

Looking to very migrate soon - process and json and media files

Ning To Jamroom

Strumelia:
It 'should', right? Are you pointing the download to your same previously downloaded archive folder I assume? Is it actually working out as you had hoped, or have you not yet successfully completed the re-archive on top of the older one yet?

It actually does work, assuming you are downloading into the same directory. From the time stamps it looks like it overwrites the existing .json files and creates entirely new ones. However, it appears that the archive utility scans the existing corresponding media folder and does not re-download anything that's already been downloaded. It scanned the media folder for my Events archive with over 400 images in a minute or three and downloaded only one new media file added since the archive.

Huge time savings.

{snip} If your plan works I'd love to know it for myself, so please let us know if it works! :) {/end snip}

@Strumelia:

I just relaunched the Ning archive tool 3 days after doing the initial download and I can re-scan every category of content. It doesn't take long to create the .json files, and the list of all the media downloaded stays intact so rescanning that should mean that if it's downloaded already it won't need to be re-downloaded.

So no need to delete the existing .json files at all.

I assume you realize that existing private inbox messages will not carry over from Ning. Also, if you want your new JR site to support private messages between members, you'll also need to install JR's "Private notes" module, which is not in the Ning bundle.
Best of luck. (-eating some chocolate right now!)

@Strumelia:

I will definitely let you know if this works.

And thanks for the heads up on the messaging. I kind of figured I would lose the archive of private messages and it's something I will need to give my members a heads up about. I will keep the site up at it's Ning URL for a while after making the changeover so people can grab stuff they want - including me!
