Something To consider when leaving Ning

Ning To Jamroom

I have a similar story.
When starting the N2JR project I signed up with them as they offered a two week free trial. After a week I cancelled my subscription, told them that 'Ning wasn't for me' and thought that was that. Not so. A few weeks later I start getting emails demanding $100s for an annual subscription that I was apparantly liable for. Naturally I argue the toss saying that this was not my definition of a two week free trial. Long story short, they eventially also grant me a 'one time pardon'!!

Not seeing an issue with this - pending events not showing when not logged in.

Have you entered all the questions using the Form Designer on the signup form - http://www.jamroom.net/ning-to-jamroom/documentation/ning-to-jamroom/2073/step-4-importing-the-ning-archive-to-jamroom => Ning Signup Questions

(Note - Get the latest Core module before doing this - there was a small bug that stopped it working)

Events approval not working?

Ning To Jamroom

I think that as Admin or Creator you will see it. After all, how would Admin know whether to approve it or not ;-)
Test by logging out and seeing if its still there.

Profile question to Groups

Using Jamroom

If its just one 'multiple-choice' question with relatively short answers, put the question in the User language string ID 59 then make the possible answers the quota titles.

Problem with Forum as group work around

Ning To Jamroom

Having the 'forum tabs' for newest, my posts etc. on a group discussion page is doable but would require some custom template work. Not too difficult to do if you've worked with Jamroom templates before and know a little bit of html. I know that maybe doesn't help you Perrie but mentioning it in case any other ex-Ningsters who have done template work have the same issue and may be able to help.

The other thing to consider, that may not have been mentioned here before but is something I've noticed after months of working with Ning archives, is that archived comments on any one Ning item are limited to the latest 200, so if you do have 300+ comments in a group discussion on Ning, you are only going to see 200 of them on Jamroom. It may be that you can ask Ning to lift this capping?
Another thing I've noticed in the archive related to this is that although comments may be threaded on Ning, when archived, they are 'flattened' so that any child comments are archived sequentially after their parent comment, and this is how they are imported into Jamroom. Their is no information in the archive that can allow them to be automatically re-threaded. Sorry, but its yet another anomoly of the Ning archiver that we have no control over!! So the upshot of this is that if choosing to import Ning global discussions to a group and not the forum just to get threaded discussions, they will only start to be threaded as new comments are added.

Just mentioning this now in case it affects your decision about this.

Converting ning urls to JR urls question...

Ning To Jamroom

There may well be the same images with different file names in the archive and the importer has no way of knowing about these. However the latest import module does make the most efficient use of the archive that it can. When you come to the 'final import' I'd reset 'resetting' your site (keeping all your work, of course) and doing a full import of the latest archive. Let me know when you are ready for this and I'll help.
