Forum, Group or Discussion??

Ning To Jamroom

Yes, there are three options when importing a Ning2 site forum -

Forum - Import to the main Jamroom forum module. What you are looking at now is this module so what you see here is what you'll end up with.

Group - Some users who have migrated there Ning sites to Jamroom liked the idea of a Group pages being the main forum, so this option was created. Basically a 'Forum Profile' is created or assigned and on import, forum categories force groups of the same name to be created, then for Topics under each category, Group Discussions are created, and the topic comments and then added to each discussion.

Discussion - This is an alternative Forum module that was sponsored by ex-Ningster @perrie. She wanted 'threaded comments' on her forums which this forum module doesn't support so the 'Discussion' module was developed to support this. Actually, I don't think this module has ever been put into the Jamroom Marketplace. If you are interested in it, I can do that.

Hope that makes sense. Out of the three I'd recommend the Forum module as that is the most featured of the three options.

What's the difference between a profile admin, a master admin and a power user?

Using Jamroom

Hi Deb - Maybe if your greeters set their profile settings to 'Approve Followers'? They will still get the new member emails but can then reject them as followers.

Installation and Configuration

Always a good idea to run the Integrity Check and clear caches after an upgrade, particularly a major one like this.

Explaining the Sign up form, a two-way problem, and a possible two-in-one solution

Using Jamroom

When logged in as Master Admin, go to the signup form - http://yoursite.com/user/signup - and click on the Form Designer button (top right). You can now add in more fields for the new user to fill in. Upon signup, the user's responses to these fields are in the User's DataStore and as such, with a bit of template work, can be made visible on the user profile page.
If you then use the Form Designer to add the same fields to the User Account form, Profile Admins can see them there prior to approving the account.

Strum - The module is in the marketplace now. Also, quotas don't come into it. Just configure the module with a comma seperated list of the Greeters' profile IDs and check the checkboxes as appropriate.

Deb - Checkout the latest AutoFollow module - https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/networkmarket/287/auto-follow
If you configure it so that your 'Host' profiles are automatically followed by new users, they can get a notification email about that so they will know about new users without being Profile Admins.

Set your 'hosts' up as Profile Admins. They'll then get emails when members join and be able to welcome them. Bear in mind that they'll also have access to all other profile details and content so they can also act a 'moderators' if need be.
No need for them to have a special quota (unless you want them to, of course) - as Master Admin, just go to their user account page and set them as Profile Admins.
