Latest Ning Import module released.

Ning To Jamroom

Ning Import module Version 1.1.14 is now in the Marketplace.

As well as fixing a couple of bugs, this module has two new, and important features.

1) All Ning discussions not allocated to a group that have previously been imported to the Jamroom forum module can now optionally be imported as group discussions allocated to a specified group. Group discussions support threaded comments whereas the forum module does not.

2) The Delete Media tool, which is the final process of the Ning Import, now also moves the remaining Ning archive to the /data/media/0/0 folder. This has the effect of making the referenced files in the archive 'part' of the Jamroom install. This is particularly useful if you are using the jrBackup module to backup your Jamroom to the Amazon S3 cloud as the contents of the Ning archive will now also be included in that backup regime.

Thanks

New here, hello everyone!

Ning To Jamroom

jamesh:
Thanks Brian, I look forward to getting stuck in as soon as my upload finishes! I have purchased the bundle already, are there any issues I am likely to face during the import? It's 18GB. Also can I update the import at the point of going live? So as to have all of my Ning content at the point of the switch over?

Hi James - Just follow the Ning Import guide and you should be ok. Any questions, just post here on the forums.

https://www.jamroom.net/ning-to-jamroom/documentation/ning2jamroom

Also, make sure your installed NingImport module, and all other installed modules and skins are up to date.

And yes, just prior to going live you can run the import again with the latest downloaded archive. When doing so, if you select the 'Create' option for each item (not the 'Delete and Create') the importer will skip over any existing imported items and just create the new ones.

Post a support ticket - You can attach images there. We just don't want the forum covered with them ;-)

Quote: It takes a lot of tweaking of templates and Jamroom can be quite confusing in the profile area, as it uses a number of different templates to make up a profile, depending on what area you are looking at. Not for the faint hearted really.

Possibly for 'regular' Jamroom skins, but the Ningja skin has been designed specifically for Ning migrants so will do the forum thing 'out of the box', as well as working, as far as possible, in a way familiar to Ning users.

I use a free FTP Client called Filezilla - https://filezilla-project.org
When configured and connected to your server the main left pane is your PC file system and the right main pane is the server file system so just select folders then "drag'n'drop".

New Ning To Jamroom Support Forum

Ning To Jamroom

Hi Denis - Welcome to Jamroom
You also contacted us with these questions via a support ticket, so will respond here and close that ticket.

Are you following the Ning to Jamroom documentation here? -

https://www.jamroom.net/ning-to-jamroom/documentation/ning2jamroom

That will take you thought every step of the process. From that you'll see that you now need to upload your Ning archive to a folder alongside your Jamroom install. This is done with FTP.
With the free Jamroom Core you'll be able to import your Ning members and their blogs. To install all other Ning items you'll need the Ning to Jamroom Bundle that contains all the modules needed as well as the Ningja skin designed specifically for Ning imports -

https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/bundle/18/ning-to-jamroom

Note that all Jamroom modules and skins are licences for two domains so with this one purchase would be good for the two Ning sites you want to import.

Quote: When running the Ning archive software, media files were very hard to be successfully downloaded. In most cases they had a number of files that couldn't be downloaded. Will that affect the import to Jamroom? How?
If there are no media files in your archive, they cannot be imported, of course. The archive download from Ning is something we are not in control of, so you might need to contact them directly.

Hope That Helps

Hi Perrie - It does make sense and is achievable with Jamroom.

Would you consider what you are looking at now a 'central forum'? If so, take a look at the URL above. This is actually the profile forum of 'the-jamroom-network' (the whole of jamroom.net is a regular Jamroom site!!). When importing the Ning archive you get the option of importing Ning forum discussions to a specific profile, so if that profile was named 'Forums', say, for all intents and purposes it would be a general forum, as this one is.

Another option that will be in the next release of the NingImport module will be to import Ning Forums to a specified Group instead of the Jamroom Forum module. Groups are comment based so by doing this, threaded comments would be inherent.
Hope That Helps

Design and Skin Customization

Also, after the first time you modify a template by this method, go back to the Templates tab and check its box to enable it.
Another tip when developing or changing templates is to put the site into 'Developer Mode' so that caching is disabled and you'll see any changes made immediately on page refresh. This setting is in the free jrDeveloper module. As you have a new site you may not have this module installed. I still have your logins, so let me know if you want help installing that.

Jamroom5 is basically the same as Jamroom4 in that you can do almost anything you want with the template system. Its just that they are in different places.
