Lots of questions and issues being reported on the Ning forum

Ning To Jamroom

Hi Bree
When you say the 'main page' do you mean the http://susanboylekeepingitreal.co.uk page?
Imported items take their 'created' date and time from the data in the Ning archive and are shown on this page 'newest first'. Which ones do you think are out of order?
With the default 'Elastic' that you are using, profile events are shown oldest first but there is an easy fix for that which I have done by editing a template.
The Elastic skin you are using is functional but there may be another that will work better for your site 'out-of-the-box'. Let me upload something else for you to try. Its late now so I'll do that tomorrow and let you know, then we can sort out your other queries.

RE: Migration from Ning 3.0

Try installing it from the ACP and see if installs ok.
It might also be worth checking the error logs to see if anything critical happened during the install.
Or to be really safe, drop the DB tables again, delete the /data/config/config.php file and the /data/log files and re-install.

Thank goodness for that - I thought I was going mad ;-)
That's fine. If it looks ok, start using it again, but am slightly concerned that you installed Jamroom whilst the last few files were still uploading, some some of the modules 'may' not have installed correctly.

Ceri - Did you install the new Jamroom?
I ask because I dropped all the database tables, deleted all the old JR files, uploaded them all again, went to the page to go through the install procedure but there Jamroom was, already installed!!

Trying out groups...

Ning To Jamroom

I've just very quickly tried this and it works :-)

Create a profile quota called 'Cities'.
Create a couple of profiles, Leicester and Nottingham (do both of these actions in the Profile Tools section).
Create a simple template that lists profiles in the 'Cities' quota.
Next to each 'profile_name' (the city) add a link that takes you to http://yoursite.com/gallery/create/gallery_city_id=2 or whatever the city ID is (this is done dynamically with smarty templates).
From the gallery create form go to Form Designer and create a select field named 'gallery_city_id'.
A very simply created custom module now provides a function to fill that select field with all available cites with the specified one pre-selected.
Fill in the gallery title and upload the images. Hit submit.
Each image is now 'tagged' with smarty variable that is the city ID - gallery_city_id
This value can now be used in subsequent gallery searches to only return images tagged with a particular city.

Simple HTML and CSS usage in Jamroom

Design and Skin Customization

Basically follow what Douglas said.
In your active skin folder, create a file called my_template.tpl
Open the index.tpl there and copy the {jrCore_include template="header.tpl"}
and {jrCore_include template="footer.tpl"} lines of smarty, in that order. Save the file.
In your browser goto http://yoursite.com/my_template
Do you get the heady and footer? If so you can now start adding your html code in-between the header and footer smarty calls.
To see what smarty variables you have to play with, put in a {debug}. Now when opening the page you'll get a popup with all available. To use a smarty variable just include it inside curly brackets - {$jamroom_url} say.

Make sure you are in developer mode when doing this, to disable caching, otherwise you'll be making changes and not immediately seeing any results.

But as I explained above, they can upload Galleries and tag them with one of the City Profiles, then the City Profile page(s) can list all galleries appropriately tagged.
Is that what you are trying to do, or am I missing something?
You can try the groups module but I think if Groups were Cities, you'd still need to do the same thing.
If you want, I'll knock something up to show you how its done.

Thanks

Ceri Shaw:
I think the problems started last night when I clicked on 'View Full Screen' in the Npage screen after creating an Npage. Pages started appearing the way they do now.

Let me check this out. I only added that full screen option the other day so there might be an issue with it!!

Then I guess that a file has become corrupt or has gone missing!!
Try re-uploading the whole of the Core again. If that doesn't fix it, do another install with the newly uploaded files.
