Recommended hosting

Jamroom Hosting

What host do you recommend? Niche site. Starting over with jr5 so not a lot of users or traffic at this point, but possibly a lot of space I'll be utilizing for content built up over the years.

I've been with my current host for many years, but my site has been down for two days as I write this and it was down for several days a couple weeks back. Support is hard to reach. They're highly recommended here and I'd really like to stay, but I'm finding it hard to deal with the 500 server errors and 5-minute page load times.

comments error

Using Jamroom

I'm getting this message on all my detail pages (jrElastic). I believe it started occurring after the last re-load (after Brian fixed the editor included in a custom field option). There's nothing in the error log.

Form designer field (audio)

Using Jamroom

I've added a field in form design. I've set the type as "editor" and verification to printable characters with HTML. The editor that shows has only a small subset of tools I see available to the editor in other errors on the site. No link tools, etc. If I switch the type to "textarea" I can input html which the editor doesn't allow.

Template Editor

Using Jamroom

I never used the control panel template editor in jr4. Brian recommended using it in jr5, but I'd rather forgo it if possible. Basically, I come from doing all my jr4 editing in a basic text editor.

How do you handle images, css, etc.? I guess jr5 combines them all -- if you change css outside of the jr5 control panel do you need to do something beyond just updating the file?

Do you still need to work with the check box system in the control panel when you change a file?

What about the marketplace system? What happens when you update a module through the marketplace if you have your templates stored in your skin directory?

There are probably other possible issues I'm not considering.

Template Editor

The template editor is not exactly conducive to editing a template. Code often extends outside the right margin making it necessary to scroll left/right. Long templates have a left/right scrollbar that is only visible when you scroll all the way to the bottom of the template (making it difficult when what you want to scroll over to access is at the top of the template).

I've taken to copying templates to a text editor, making changes, then copying back in.

Is there a better way?

My system is doing the same thing as Dazed. I believe we're both on jbservers. Is the core safe to reload (re: Douglas' error)?

Form Designer Language

I think I'd have a drop down whenever there are multiple pages (i.e., at 2). While at 2, it's not more efficient to use the dropdown, it keeps the navigation consistent. I expect the drop to be there whether it's more useful or not. I get in the habit of using it if it's there sometimes, so I expect to be there all the time and am put off when it's not. Just my thoughts.

Also, I would add a button, around where the forward button resides, that goes to the last page. That's actually what the drop down menu is used most often to do. For instance, I've just created a custom form field and I go to the module's Language Settings and want to edit them -- I'll want to go to the last page of language settings.

I hate clicking on the right arrow more than once. I'm old, I need to maximize my time whenever possible. I don't have much of it left.
