Quota Questions

Using Jamroom

Ning doesn't have quotas as far as Im aware (but thats not very aware having never used Ning).

Seams like your in a different location than where you want to be with that message:
Quote: "If this option is checked, Profiles in this quota will be allowed to change their Profile Privacy. If unchecked, the Default Profile Privacy will be used instead."

Thats the wording from the PROFILE module's quota config tab. What you want to configure is the sales modules quota and the image modules quota.

So think about it in levels.
sell stuff = foxycart
display images = gallery

So to let people sell stuff, go to:
ACP -> ECOMMERCE -> FOXYCART ECOMMERCE -> QUOTA CONFIG

* In the "Selected Quota" drop down box, choose the quota you want to change permissions for. The page will refresh and you'll be setting up whether that quota can do stuff or not.
* Get the options how you like them and make sure the "Allowed on Profile" is checked to give them access.

Next do the same thing for galleries.
ACP -> MEDIA -> IMAGE GALLERIES -> QUOTA CONFIG

* In the "Selected Quota" drop down box, choose the quota you want to change permissions for. The page will refresh and you'll be setting up whether that quota can do stuff or not.
* Get the options how you like them and make sure the "Allowed on Profile" is checked to give them access.

There's some more explanation on the quota system here:

"The Quota System"

What's the best option for creating Site Wide Forum & Blogs ?

Using Jamroom

The way we have it here on jamroom.net is to setup a quota for profiles that are intended to be forward facing. These get the most exposure on the top section of the site.

Then graduate down in exposure depending on what quota they are in.

So the blog list under the /blogs is team members blogs. Thats done by specifying it in the {jrCore_list} that pulls the content for that url:
https://www.jamroom.net/blog

Seams like a good way to do it. Each user can have a blog still, but because they are not in the X quoat they dont get quite the same amount of exposure on the top level.

eg:
HOME -> BLOGS

Shows Michael's and Brian's posts even though Gary Moncrieff has a blog, it doesnt show up there:

HOME -> FORUMS -> (something where Gary has commented in) -> gary.moncrieff -> BLOG
https://www.jamroom.net/garymoncrieff/blog/50/switching-things-up-ditching-phpfox-for-jamroom#comment_section

A cool feature would be to add a Form Designer checkbox to let the admins check a blog post to make it featured so it did appear in the site blog. (another thing that could be done, but is not implemented on jamroom.net yet.)

How do I start?

Using Jamroom

You dont need a VIP members subscription to install it. The Vip Members subscription is to get full access the forum here, read and write, rather than just read. But your writing right now anyhow so for now you can talk to us. :)

Any hosting account should work. The one we have been recommending lately is this one:

https://www.arvixe.com/jamroom-hosting

But are trying to get setup to be able to compare hosting companies so it will be easier to make a decision on which works best.

Read this thread:
"Have to move off arvixe now"
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/forum/new_posts/22114/have-to-move-off-arvixe-now-linode-digital-ocean-other

about faster options.

Sorry for not having a "Go Here" option at the moment.

You might try installing it in a sub-domain. Everything in jamroom goes through that single point:
router.php

Cant say why it would be experiencing extra loads though as I've never dealt with that script. Perhaps its still running spiders and needs to finish that run-out.

New here, hello everyone!

Ning To Jamroom

Its always a good idea to start a question in a new thread so once its answered others can find it. "Whats in the Email sent after Ning import?" seams like a good title.

Paul will be along in a few hours, hes got the answers on the Ning import.

Process for multi-profile accounts

Ning To Jamroom

nup, you just confused me.

You've seen this right:

"Concepts the Admin user needs to know."
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/getting-started/2167/concepts-the-admin-user-needs-to-know

And here on jamroom.net there is me who is both:
* jamroom.net/michael
* jamroom.net/site-builder
* jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network

I only have 1 user account but have 3+ profiles. Im the only one to have /michael but /site-builder and /the-jamroom-network also have @paul @brian and @doug as users connected to those accounts.

/michael
/paul
/doug
/brian

are all in the same quota, it doesnt have much stuff
/the-jamroom-network is in a quota by itself and

/site-builder
/ning-to-jamroom
/proxima
/genosis

Are all in the same quota as sub-projects of jamroom.

Member profile settings page missing Active and Quota fields

Ning To Jamroom

thechocolatelife:...They are visible to me as admin but not visible to members?...

Did you do this:
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/howto/2432/howto-allow-your-members-to-switch-quotas-by-themselves

I'm pretty sure you did.

Try running the integrity check because it seams to be working here for me. Not sure how to make it not work.

Member profile settings page missing Active and Quota fields

Ning To Jamroom

There is no update for a signup form. You can sign-up using the form, you cant go back to that form to change the information.

Look for the data in the Profile datastore, I think its stored there. If it is, adding the field to the update form of the profile update form will get you access to it.

Process for multi-profile accounts

Ning To Jamroom

You can just add a new profile from the ACP and link the account to that if you like.

Create a new profile is:
ACP -> PROFILES -> USER PROFILE -> TOOLS -> CREATE NEW PROFILE

Then link account is:
ACP -> PROFILES -> USER PROFILE -> TOOLS -> link user accounts

To link the existing user to the profile.
