Looks like the "new messages" chat bubble notification is broken - working on that.

Alpha Team Guidelines

michael:
Except for that unexplained 'alpha team' badge on their profiles.
Enthusiasm for a product is great - having 'fans' talk a out your product is probably the best thing. They can be impartial and biased - since they aren't part of the team other users are more likely to listen.

I've just pushed some small changes this morning:

- moved the room selector back to the top next to the room title
- new close/expand/contract icons that I think are a bit simpler and cleaner looking
- fixed some bugs in how things opened/close

Let me know if anyone sees any issues.

Thanks!

Alpha Team Guidelines

SteveX:
Sounds sensible.
Where should I be posting possible bugs, typos etc? To the alpha forum or the network forum?

If it's a bug in an existing release, then either forum is fine - if it's in an unreleased (or alpha channel only) module/skin, then here in the alpha forum.

Thanks!

Yeah I'd like to confine the functionality to one button, and not have 2 ways to get the same info. Right now the reason the room selector is on the left is that it is the only button that shows when chat is minimized. What I might be able to do is move that to the top bar, and instead have the minimize chat icon turn into an "open" icon when the chat is minimized. Then only width controls are on the left. I think that makes sense. The only remaining issue is that the chat header will feel a bit out of balance with 2 icons on the right, so what I'll probably do is make the chat room title appear in a "button" that can then be clicked to bring up the chat room selector.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks!

I pushed a new version of the chat module this morning with a couple small changes:

- CSS should be better in MS Edge

- I removed the drop down room selector next to the room title. There were 2 ways to select rooms, and I'd prefer to have 1 way. Now you just click on the room selector in the left side icon bar. you'll see a transcript download option there as well. This saves having to show/hide it if there is only 1 chat room and also makes it so there is 1 way to change rooms, which makes it easier for users to understand.

Let me know if you see any issues.

a smarty template function for getting chat stats should be pretty easy to add in - I'll check it out.

Alpha Team Guidelines

Hey everyone - Gary recommended this and I agreed it was a good idea - basically outlining some of the things to expect as a member of the alpha team.

- By default let's assume any information posted here in the alpha forum, or the alpha chat, is private - i.e. what gets posted in the alpha forum, stays in the alpha forum ;)

- Don't talk about new modules/skins/features that we release into the Alpha marketplace channel unless it's something we are ready to talk about. I've learned over the years that features can easily change during an alpha/beta period, so we don't want to get anyone excited about a new feature that is coming, only to have it get cut at the last minute.

- any "help" you guys can offer as far as spreading the word about JR - i.e. tweeting about Jamroom, retweeting the @Jamroom twitter feed, liking things on Facebook, posting to forums, etc would be really helpful as you guys are going to come across as more impartial since you're not part of the JR team

- any help you guys can provide in the main Jamroom Support forum is also really appreciated - that frees us up a bit more for development.

Let me know what you guys think or if I overlooked anything.

Thanks!

Yep - netdata was posted a few months back to Hacker News. It's super nice/cool looking, but overkill for what we need here :)

For our system monitoring we use a custom JR module running here on Jamroom.net called "Nucleos" that monitors all of our hosting infrastructure. I've attached a screenshot so you can see what it looks like - it works really well for what we do here.

I like that it is command line. Looks mostly like a config/setup utility as well.
