Marketplace 1.3.0

I've just pushed a new version of the marketplace (1.3.0) to the alpha channel:

- New: "Marketplace Versions" global Config option to automatically keep release archive pruned
- Change: Delete Archive Version button removed from Release Archive tool - not used
- Bug Fix: Release Archive could show NEWER version as the previous version to restore to

Also has a new banner advertising Hosted/Premium (you only see it if you are NOT premium or hosted).

The big change is the new setup to automatically remove OLD versions of modules and skins that are no longer needed, thus keeping your modules and skins directory cleaner.

Please let me know if you see any issues.

Thanks!

Alpha Team marketplace channel

I've just sent out invites to the Alpha marketplace channel - directions on how to subscribe to it are included in the email you should have received (if you didn't get it let me know).

We'll use the Alpha channel to push out new modules and skins for testing, as well as early versions of new modules to get feedback.

Let me know if there are any questions.

Thanks!

Free RAM upgrades for Jamroom Hosted servers!

Announcements

We're excited to announce FREE RAM upgrades for all Jamroom Hosted servers! Most plans will double in RAM (larger plans increase by 50%), which gives you more resources for running Jamroom.

Upgrading your server is easy, but it requires a manual reboot process on the back end by us, so just open a support ticket with us and we will get you updated.

Let us know if there any questions.

Thanks for using Jamroom Hosted :)

question on new joinup emails

Using Jamroom

Kickbox does some extra things to try and determine if it feels the address is good:

- has it seen emails sent to this address before?
- is the domain a valid domain?
- does the domain have valid MX (mail exchanger) records?
- how long has the domain been registered for?

etc.. it then basically gives a "score" to the email address to determine if it thinks it is good.

question on new joinup emails

Using Jamroom

Strumelia:
Yes i understand what you are saying about the email 'looking like' it's valid because it's in a valid email format.
But what I'm saying is: a person tries to sign up as a member using (for example) Judyblue23@msn.com ....but she doesn't have an msn email account.
Does the current Jamroom 'validity check' check to see if the email is actually functional when a person signs up (whether it needs admin approval or not), or is it simply checking to see if the address 'looks like' a typical email address format? (i.e. not something like Judyblue23@msn@com )

By default the core just does a valid syntax check for the email (which should be fine 99% of the time). If you have the Kickbox module installed, then make sure the "Signup Check Enabled" option is checked in the global config, and that will attempt to "sort of" validate an email address.

Unfortunately there is no reliable way to ensure an email address is VALID (i.e. exists in the target system) just by having the address - the only sure fire way is to SEND an email to that address and have the user respond to something in the email (i.e. validation).

If you think about it, if it were easy to validate that an email address was an actual functional email address, it would be a heyday for spammers.

Let me know if that helps.

Team Chat

gary.moncrieff:
Only one minor thing, there appears to be two vertical scroll bars in the chatroom pane, checked in both Edge and Chrome and behaviour is the same.
Correct - one is for the page to scroll, the other is for the chat pane to scroll. Ideally the page scroll bar would be to the left of the chat pane, but since the chat pane is actually part of the window, that would require replacing the browser scrollbar with a javascript scroll bar (which in turn would require changing the HTML positioning of the skin).

It may not look perfect but it is fully functional.

Welcome to the Alpha Team

That's not a bad idea, but in practice I think that would be complicated to implement and it's not very user friendly (as it forces you to think about it). Our goal is to not make you think about it, so we'll have a solution so you can use @jimmy anywhere and it will "just work" like you expect it to.

Welcome to the Alpha Team

jimmyk:
Same here. Ever since I starting using the "Insert Nick" plugin on another piece of software I started using nicks all the time. When it's as easy as clicking a button that inserts the nick automagically, I started using it.
For me if I am typing I don't want to have to move off the keyboard to click something, but I'm sure I am in the minority.

We've been talking about mentions in one of our trackers, since we have a REALLY cool new skin that's going to be coming out that is very socially centered. The only issue we have is that it's trickier to implement than it may seem on the surface. For example, a lot of Jamroom modules have ways to enact extra levels of "privacy" on an item (i.e. admin only documentation, profile only trackers, tickets, etc.) and in those cases if you mention someone, we DON'T want it to notify a user that they have been mentioned, since in that case the item they are mentioned in will be unviewable.

Or like in this form (followers only) - if we mention someone here, it needs to be private.
