the perfect groups disabling the profile header

Ning To Jamroom

theres been maqny requests to disable the profile header along with the profile sidebar in groups

i spend days trying to figure this out and thankfully brian came through with the answer

so i wanted to share it with you

heres my full profile_header.tpl code
and i willl explain the easy ..super easy way to make this happen

{assign var="from_profile" value="yes"}
{jrCore_include template="header.tpl"}
{if $_post.option != "group"}

<div class="container profilecover" {if $profile_z == 'on'}id="profile_z"{/if}>
{if isset($profile_cover_image_size) && strlen($profile_cover_image_size) > 0}
{jrCore_module_function function="jrImage_display" module="jrProfile" type="profile_cover_image" item_id=$_profile_id size="xxxlarge" class="img_scale" alt=$profile_name title=$hover width=false height=false}{/if}

    {if !isset($_conf.sebuildmynewninja_forum_profile) || strpos($current_url, $_conf.sebuildmynewninja_forum_profile) !== 0}
    <div class="row">
        <div class="col12 last">
            <div class="profile_name_box">

                <div class="block_config" style="margin-top:3px">
                    {jrCore_module_function function="jrFollower_button" profile_id=$_profile_id title="Follow This Profile"}
                    {jrCore_item_update_button module="jrProfile" view="settings/profile_id=`$_profile_id`" profile_id=$_profile_id item_id=$_profile_id title="Update Profile"}
                    {if jrUser_is_admin() || jrUser_is_power_user()}
                        {jrCore_item_create_button module="jrProfile" view="create" profile_id=$_profile_id title="Create new Profile"}
                    {/if}
                    {if jrUser_is_master()}
                        {jrCore_item_delete_button module="jrProfile" view="delete_save" profile_id=$_profile_id item_id=$_profile_id title="Delete this Profile" prompt="Are you sure you want to delete this profile?"}
                    {/if}
                </div>

                <a href="{$jamroom_url}/{$profile_url}"><h1 class="profile_name">{$profile_name}</h1></a>

            </div>
        </div>
    </div>

    <div class="row">
        <div class="col12 last">
            <div class="profile_menu">
                {if jrCore_is_mobile_device()}
                    {jrProfile_menu template="profile_menu_mobile.tpl" profile_quota_id=$profile_quota_id profile_url=$profile_url}
                {else}
                    {jrProfile_menu template="profile_menu.tpl" profile_quota_id=$profile_quota_id profile_url=$profile_url}
                {/if}
            </div>
        </div>
    </div>
    {/if}
{/if}
    <div class="row">

    {if $profile_disable_sidebar != 1}
        {jrCore_include template="profile_sidebar.tpl"}
    {/if}

    {* next <div> starts in body *}

now theres a few things diferent from yours
{if $_post.option != "group"}

<div class="container profilecover" {if $profile_z == 'on'}id="profile_z"{/if}>
{if isset($profile_cover_image_size) && strlen($profile_cover_image_size) > 0}
{jrCore_module_function function="jrImage_display" module="jrProfile" type="profile_cover_image" item_id=$_profile_id size="xxxlarge" class="img_scale" alt=$profile_name title=$hover width=false height=false}{/if}

and the closing if just before the div class row at the end

most of thats my custom profile cover photo code (see my other tips)
the only parts u need to worry about is
{if $_post.option != "group"}
and the
{/if}

to disable profile headers on group pages find

<div class="container">

just above that paste
{if $_post.option != "group"}
so it looks like
{if $_post.option != "group"}
<div class="container">

then find at the very bottom
<div class="row">
and paste in your closing if so it looks like
{/if}
<div class="row">

then apply the changes clear cache and go look at your newly perfected groups... and smile just like i did when i finaly got mine right

brian:
soaringeagle:
but it shiouldnt look like it is

You'll have to forgive me, since I know you're trying to make Jamroom look just like your Ning Site, but since your users are going to be transitioning to your "new" site (i.e. going from Ning -> Jamroom) wouldn't it be a good time to change other things that might need to be changed?

I definitely understand having no header on the "site forum" but for groups this just doesn't seem like it should be an issue. Just my 2 cents of course, but it seems like you're spending a lot of effort trying to bend Jamroom to look more like Ning when you could use it as an opportunity to roll out something new :)

i agree and disagree i absolutely am rolling out somethijg new
but
the groups really make much more sence to be more a stand alone thing they have aleways been used as a site within a site
wich in a way yes jr profiles do behave somewhat like a site within a site wich is something new and exciting but the groups ,,
well
although started by 1 belong to all
if that makes it clearer

like ok i started a lgbt dreadies group i am neighter l g b or 2 (not narrow minded but straight) i made the group to be all inclusive of our members who are lgbt
but having my profile header and sidebar and everything makes it look like hey im gay get used to it when im not i just simply created the group for those who are

its thier group... not mine.. i just put it together for them

now do u see why the groups shouldnt appear to be part of a profile just strarted by 1 but thier own seperate entity

Ning To Jamroom

ning 2 group http://www.dreadlockssite.com/group/rainbowfamilydreadies
note theres a small created by at the top .. small beingkey with just a send message and view users other groups link
theres a editable text area to add any personilization you want to the group then discussions with a finite number shown and pagination and then comment wall again only so many shown then pagination

3.0 groups note this was a beta test site the groups are just test groups but u see the flexibility
http://ww3.dreadlockssite.com/groups/photography

and
http://ww3.dreadlockssite.com/groups
the groups listing alows groups to be grouped into catagories

within each group you can have dozens of forums witrh dozens of forum categories each dozens odf blogs with dozens of categories dozens of photo galleries with dozens of vcategories (dozens really mneans unlimmited except the categories wich i think were limited to 50)

ning 3 groups were simply amazing

but thats something that willktake a whole lot of time and effort to develop into jr so im just showing u as an example of whnat u might want to consider way down the road ..maybe in jr 6
its a huuuuge upgrade from the ning 2 groups...huge

but ..for now wed be perfectly content with just the header hidden.. thats it.. and a follow link to follow group..not profile activity

those 2 lil changes (and me fixing a few of my issues and completing a few of my plans) is all we need to go live even without a perfected site builder

at least thats my opinion of and the rethinking of the photo page titleing like iposted yesterday

the ning to jr projects nearly there.. i mean nearlty to the point of being a usable complete package .. ofcourse it can be improved on ..but you should be damn proud of what u have accomplished in such a short time

im goingto post a what i think needsto be tweaked to have a finished product post

where the heck is "include profile_header.tpl"

Ning To Jamroom

groups on ning have a little created by link they dont have the whole profile menu
they donthave the 'follow' that follows the profile not the group the groups stand alone on thier own and in fact when the profile that created the group leaves the site the group remains because a group is for a group odf people not for the profile owner alone as a fan club they are practicly stand alone sites within a site

now on jr that isnt possible everything has to be within a profile.. but it shiouldnt look like it is
yes there can be a created by link to the creators profile but the header and sidebar that make it part of a profile shgould be gone
i also alow a profile cover image .. wich doesnt belong on the groups

if the groups are to have a menu it should be a group not profile menu

the ning 3.0 groups are amazing the 1 thing they did well
that can have multiple forums blogs galleries pages all within a group ..like having a sitebuilder site within the group itself

now i dont expect a group anything like ning 3 anytime soon as it is now they are alot like ning 2 groups if you just remove the profile header as well as sidebar.. then they are just like ning 2 groups

6 months from now if u feekl ambitios and want to really take it to the next level you can try to build ning 3.0 like groups .. that is the 1 single thing that had n ingt users excited and willing to stay despite all the nonsence
ning 3.0 groups were a game changer

but for now we will be perfectly happy with jr groups with the profile hheader gone

Ning To Jamroom

thats what i thought
well can you add a way in the profile module to turn off the profile head within groups
in since the head has the include sidebar i think..but might be wrong.. that that would disable the sidebar too

the groups really need both disabled
ill take a look later see if i cant figure it out and post a solution
but i think your saying its in the php right

module search only seems to work in forrums

Ning To Jamroom

very odd
i know in the photo module..my custom version im using the search code given to me by...ithink micheal? or was it you i cant remember
but on the default gallery page i havent changed a thing

ill dig around see what i can find

side note i tried adding a 3rd party search last night that really looked awesome but adding it all the buttons stopped working
(had to add the js by ftp as it said syntax error in the template editor)

but even after removing the script i had to switch back to elastic via mysql multiple times till i was able to remove the form tag from the template and get the buttons working again

module search only seems to work in forrums

Ning To Jamroom

the module search only seems to work remotely correwctly in the forums
when searching the gallery werther my custom 1 or default for a titloke u see on screen it returns the exact same page with every image/song/blog/etc and says search results for 'whatever search term' but shows every item in the moduler
on the custom pages it takes it a step further and if you have 3 modukles like featured blogs blogs rranked by rating and newest blogs all with the search fields all 3 say search results for.. but show the unmodified results and... worse of all 1/2 the time say search results for search

assumming it was an issue with my custom pages i was wasting time trying to figure out a better way to impliment the search.. but then saw the same results (minus the search by search) on the default modules pages

only in the forums did i get anything but what id already seen before searching and thats the only 1 that uses the magnifying glass click to search instead of inline search feild

Ning To Jamroom

well im still having some order by and search issues and need to build a couple more things my way

Ning To Jamroom

yes agree and since many jr users are used to it as is maybe the photo galleries admin should have an option 'clicking add takes you to add photo...or add gallery

so older jr users can cuhoose what they are used to

but i do think this is a cleaner easier ..more logifcal way to do it

on the plus sitde with just a couple more tweaks i feel close to ready to go live soon
