groups, no join or follow, but nonmembers can comment?

Ning To Jamroom

Update- just tested this all again-

Paul, you have FIXED the part where someone could apply to a private group and see the group's content and post to it while they were still 'pending'- YAY! Now they cannot see ANYTHING in the private group until they are approved as members. :)

HOWEVER-
the other part is still half not working right-
1) Now after the updates it's true that I cannot post to a normal group's DISCUSSIONS...but I can still post on the Group's Comment Wall...I should not be able to do that- it encourages non-group members to simply start 'discussions' on the comment wall instead of joining the group.

I cleared cache, everything. Two days later now- I log in as a regular member, I go to look at a normal Group (not private) and I can see/read both the group Discussions and the Group's Comment Wall entries...all fine so far. I cannot post to the group's discussion threads (good!) BUT...I CAN post comments in the Group's Comment Wall. I should not be able to do that unless I join the group. i just did it. Then I logged back in as admin and the comment was still there...and I deleted it.

Do you want to log into my site to see this? I can email you some regular member credentials. Thanks.

Custom images for buttons

Design and Skin Customization

Maybe someone else will have better advice, but here's my story:

I wanted to make my Audio play/pause buttons smaller on my site.
First, I went into my server via ftp and located the .png images for those buttons within the 'images' folder of my audio module.

I copied them to my computer, opened in photoshop and made them smaller by about 25%. Saved them without changing the name.
Then I went back into my server folder and simply replaced the .png files with my smaller ones of the same name.
Then back in my JR site, I just had to clear cache, including checking the checkbox for refresh Icons as well...and they were now showing as smaller.

Note- there may be TWO sets of the buttons- one regular set and another set for 'hover'...make sure you do both sets if there is a hover set as well. For my audio buttons, the 'hover' ones are bright green, while the regular ones are grey. My hover ones had names like: button_player_play_hover.png and the non-hover sibling was named without the word hover: button_player_play.png
On my computer, I saved copies of both the old and new button .pngs for safekeeping, in a clearly labeled folder, just in case something exploded. lol

Now that you've uploaded another version- go into that Images folder and find all the ones there and get them sorted so there is only the new-sized set, with the SAME names as the original .png files. If you keep the same names and only change the file sizes, then it doesn't mess up code anywhere that those buttons are called up.
Hope this is helpful

Cometchat, does anyone have it installed and working properly ?

Off Topic

That's good! My chat seems to be working fine as well for the most part. (not sure about announcements)

Supposedly that CC basic version 'update' should disappear from our JR Marketplaces update area by tomorrow. Will see.
I still think Comechat is the best option considering it has an integrated Jamroom module now. Tech support seems pretty diligent as well.

Paul, I applied the updates. It's a mixed bag.

First, when logged in as a regular member:

1) Now after the updates it's true that I cannot post to a normal group's DISCUSSIONS...but I can still post on the Group's Comment Wall...I should not be able to do that- it encourages non-group members to simply start 'discussions' on the comment wall instead of joining the group.

2) IMHO the biggest problem is still there as bad as ever- as a regular member, after i merely APPLY to join a PRIVATE group and am still PENDING (not approved) I can then go back again to the group's page and suddenly I can see everything in the group, read everything, and post on the comment wall and post in the discussions, even add a discussion....all in the PRIVATE Group without having been approved as a member yet.
Funny thing is now after your updates as a non group member I cannot now post in a regular group's discussion threads...but i CAN do so in a Private Group that I dont even belong to yet. !!

Private Groups have GOT to be PRIVATE with totally invisible content to outsiders until they are approved and allowed in as a member.

Thanks so much!

Paul- do you mean the issue as it pertains to pending applicants seeing and having access to PRIVATE Groups while they are still pending, OR do you mean members being able to post in groups they have not joined? Or both? Thanks for clarifying.

THANK you for doing this! I will check it out!

General chit chat - what you like?

I'm pretty retro...I'm into '80s music. ...um, that would be 1880s. lolol!
Mary Blane ...mid 1800s American, fiddle & banjo
Cotton Pod Walk Around, a banjo tune from the 1800s

Mucka that is some great suit you got there! it would go swell with my big 16" minstrel tambourine! :)

Using Jamroom

Now I get :
"Unable to communicate with update server"
when i try to update my last module- jrForum.

Had no trouble updating the other module update releases a few minutes ago.

(p.S. WARNING- if you go into my marketplace area- please do NOT click to update the pending CometChat update...it's a BOOBYTRAP and will blow up my working chat if it's clicked on to update!)

Brian, it tries for quite a while to reload the Core, but then stops and i get this message:

"An error was encountered trying to communicate with the Active Marketplace
make sure the Marketplace URL is set correctly in Tools -> Marketplace Systems."

I dont think it successfully reloaded the core. Tried and got same result twice.
