Just not much description and information on the marketplace offerings...so why blindly spend money?

Design and Skin Customization

Jamroom is a core platform, bare bones. There are 'skins' which present your site in a certain look (which you can change around yourself). To this you add modules from the JR marketplace to add the functions you need on your site- such modules are usually either free or sold.
The Jamroom team has been working to make a reasonably priced 'bundle' for people coming from Ning who are wanting similar functions they are used to.
The JR team has crated an import tool that will pull all the content from your Ning archive and bring it into your JR site and drop it generally into the right places so you can start tweaking and customizing further on your own.

The JR-to-Ning 'Bundle" contains the JR Core, a ning-friendly skin (Ningja), and several of the basic important modules you will be needing to receive your archive content- like for Groups,, Group discuissions, Images/albums, Events, Member profiles and Comments, etc. There are a few other modules I have already decided to purchase like to enable private messaging, add smileys, create wysiwyg text editors with embedding items features...
Hope this helps.

I do suggest you watch/read the free course I pointed out to you which will walk you through much of this beginning JR learning process. you can't learn everything you want to know if you aren't willing to put in a little time and effort to educate yourself. I mean this only in a helpful way!

How do you get a hold of customer service?

Using Jamroom

Jeff, you asked the same question in your other thread, and I responded to it there.

Design and Skin Customization

Start with the Ning Bundle, then slowly figure out what other modules you'll need as you learn.

explore your JR site settings under "ACP" along top menu. (not your server cPanel) under Modules>Users>UserAccounts>explore the various tabs with settings. Different settings are available for both "Admin quota" and "member quota".

So discontented NING user here and questions I have about Jamroom

Using Jamroom

Hi Jeff,
Did you join in the special forums the JR team created for us ning users. which Micheal suggested above? Did you install a Ning-to-JR Bundle and look around in it yet?
The support forums here are very responsive, with quick help from both other JR customers and the JR developers team. I wouldn't characterize it as 'customer service'- because YOU are the one building and running your very own site- you are not renting a service like from Ning. Jamroom is a free open source platform, with customizable modules/features you buy and add according to your needs, like plugins. You'll be installing/hosting it on your own owned or rented server space.
The JR developers team is very generous with their helpful advice, and they do support and maintain the platform core and the modules they sell. But you'll have to learn how to build/customize your own site, your server stuff, and learn the settings etc. You really are owning and running your own site! :)

This free series of instructions might help you, just sign up and start reading and watching the videos:
https://www.udemy.com/start-your-own-online-community/?dtcode=ENabOO21SKAS

Take your time, do a little reading and some tweaks each day on your site, and pretty soon you'll be amazed at what you now know and can do! :)

trouble with Smiley Module - thanks for any help!

Using Jamroom

I left a little suggestion on the module's page concerning my hope that in the future this module will accept non-square custom smileys without squishing them into square shape. I have lots of nice non-square smileys i would have loved to add in for my JR site. This 'squarification' also renders non-square moving gif smileys non-functional. Thanks!

Need for a Search within specific features (& Profiles/member List issues)

Ning To Jamroom

brian:
Something's weird - I still have the login for your site, so let me know if it is OK to check it on your system.
Thanks!

That's always ok with me Brian- I'm grateful for your help and expertise.

I'm happy that I was able to point you to a problem so that it'll be fixed soon. :)

Ning To Jamroom

Did all that, no fix.

It doesn't just spin- it spins and then acts like it completed the search and says "All Search Results for "____" " (with the search term within the quotes) but I get no search results.

Ning To Jamroom

Yes all my modules have been updated. It's there, and I can type in terms and punch to activate the search, but it's not actually producing any search results in Profiles or Images in either FF or Safari for me. I cna then hit "reset and clear the search field again, but to no avail.
I should mention that the regualr upper right site-wide search does seem to work for me.
