Can the skin global config section be more self-explanatory?

Using Jamroom

michael:
Ningja is being redesigned to use site builder by default at the moment, so a lot of those settings could disappear.

Ok, as someone who has never used sitebuilder and maybe wouldn't even want to start using it at this point... now I'm really nervous. I'm envisioning a mountain of updates in Ningja that I won't have the expertise to sort out and apply to my custom active skin (which was built from Ninja)....?

Can de-activated members continue sending private notes if still logged in?

Using Jamroom

Thanks for taking the time to create this Brian- your efforts are much appreciated.
Three questions so I can get this clear in my head:

1) I guess once this is in place, my 'user active, 1/0' new form designer field workaround, as I applied above would be redundant, am I understanding that correctly?

2) Does the new "Block" function make it impossible for a user to do any action at all on our site, including private notes? Including logging in (if they were logged out)? What does "Block" actually mean?

3) Where does this leave the "user Active/Inactive" checkbox function? Unless there is clearer labeling or descriptive help message etc, I fear it will continue to confuse New JR site owners into thinking that making a member 'inactive' makes them unable to perform 'actions' on the site...when it actually doesn't, it makes them hidden from view but they can continue sending private notes to other members...potentially doing lots of damage behind the scenes.

Thanks for sticking with us on this issue. :)

So glad it was helpful! Please keep in mind that I'm not always sure what i'm saying is accurate- I just try when I can to share what I myself have learned so far ...stumbling along myself as a non-coder. Always look to the Jamroom Team's posts for more solid help than I can offer. :)

The fact that both you and I thought that 'inactive' members were prevented from doing ANYthing on our site indicates that the function description or labeling is not clear enough to us non-programmers. This could actually lead to big problems if a troublesome member is set to 'inactive' yet continues to send out all kinds of damaging private notes unbeknownst to the admin until too late. I feel it's confusing enough to warrant more obvious language/labeling or help message... or something.

...or you could just add an admin only custom select field with those options to the profile

"Site Index" to me means the site's index/home/main page.
Thus, the Index Activity would be the Activity Feed (Timeline) section on the site's main page.
And the Index About section is the section on the site's main/index page where you put public info of what the site is about. It's a specific Admin Blog post, technically speaking. See mine at the top of my site home page where it says "Welcome to ....": http://fotmd.com/
The instructions when setting up a site say that you can create/show this section on your main page if you as admin create a blog post with the category of: About.
In your active skin, under the Site Index TAB, you'll see a checkbox to show/hide the "About" blog post section, where you can create a top section there where you put site welcome info etc on your site's main page. Check the box to make it show, make sure Blogs are enabled for Master adimn, then when in your profile page as admin, create a Blog post, set the category as About...and put in your info. Clear cache etc and you should start seeing ti appear on your site's main home (index) page.
Remember if you are in your skin, references to "site index" are referring to the site's index/main/home page. Activity usually = Timeline. If it says index activity when you are in the "Site Index" area- it's going to mean the activity feed (timeline) on the main page, not on a profile page.
If you are in say the jrGroup module and seeing the 'index' template or reference- it means the main (index) page listing Groups. Not the index page of the site. Etc

In your cases above, the word "index" is not a command to 'index something'....rather it simply refers to the site's Index (main home) page.

michael: (it is possible to have 2 quotas EXACTLY the same, but whats the point.).

You could use it as a way to categorize certain types of users, without restricting what they can do. Would actually be simpler than using a separate spreadsheet. "Users who have made past donations at some time"..."Users who have been rude or troublemakers in the past"..."Users who expressed interest in buying something"..."Older or disabled users who might regularly need extra site help from admins"....

User/account form vs Ning profile form

Ning To Jamroom

PJ, that seems like a pretty good set of basic instructions to me.

You might want to mention to your members that when in their 'settings', they can upload two images:
the image they use in their settings "Profile" TAB is the image that shows only on their Profile Page. and the image they insert in their settings "Account" Tab is the square avatar-type image that will show next to their posts all over the site.

User Moderator Settings Best Practices

Using Jamroom

I can't help with all your questions, but one thing I'd like to clarify is about the default quota JR has for "Profile Admin".
A Profile Admin is like a moderator- they have the ability to edit/delete all content that has been CREATED BY A PROFILE (member). (they cannot modify/delete the posts of Master Admin though)
Keep in mind that all forum threads, posts, photos, events, comments etc have been created by your members...by profiles. So a Profile Admin can modify all such member-created content. But they CANNOT access the back end of the ACP and site code, skins, modules etc...so they cannot change any stuff there. They can see the Dashboard. They can't make system changes. I believe to access system settings you must be a Master Admin quota...and I'm guessing such a powerful quota would also naturally include being able to modify members/profiles and all their content.

Because 'editing site pages/content' in your 3) means editing content created by members, I don't think you can have a quota where you can modify site content created by profiles without having control in editing user or member profiles.
