ning archive folder disapeared!

Ning To Jamroom

Just running the updated Delete Media Tool will now pull all needed files from our Ning_Archive folder into the JR media folders and then delete the Ning_Archive folder?

Editing member comments

Ning To Jamroom

There are others from Ning asking about this specifically...just sayin'. It's a real nice feature if a member posts a useful long post but with one inappropriate sentence in it- like for example cluelessly posting someone's address and phone number. Good to be able to edit that out without deleting the whole post heavy-handedly. Otherwise the admin feels like they are swatting a fly with a sledge hammer. ;)

Latest Ning Import module released.

Paul- whew thank goodness- I can do a simultaneous comparison. I will do this this weekend!

I think we can all agree that this whole 'forums vs groups vs discussions' subject has been a giant pain in the butt confusion between ning and jamroom... =8-* The good news is that as we struggle and tweak it will make the road a little bit smoother for those who come later.

So, if i understand right:
enabling "reply" in your comment module means you will be replying to the person's comment on your wall in the same location- right under their comment in a threaded manner, in your comment wall.
Whereas using "Comment Back" will take you to the other person's comment wall on THEIR profile page, to a new textbox where you can reply to them on THEIR commment wall (doing this can then notify them that someone has left a comment on their profile, which is the advantage over responding to them in your own comment wall).

oy. I don't even know what the heck to do with my forums at this point. Keep them as is, under the "Forums" profile? Or move them to a forums Group...?? I don't know the pros and cons of the two choices, or how they would look to members. Would all my members have to 'join' the Forums group to post? Would my forums categories mover there unaltered?

That's odd. I don't have a "reply" in my profile page Comment Wall posts. Are you referring to forums, or the profile comment wall?

Forum

Jamroom Developers

Perrie i currently have (as was previously recommended as an option) created a profile under my own user role, named the new member "Forums" and I copied the profile page url for "Forums" and pasted it as the location for where to import all my ning (non-group) main forum categories and threads. All ning forum threads and categ's were imported into that "Forums" member's forum area. In effect, the member "forums" becomes a robot member who hosts all my site's general forums. By default, in JR you can turn 'on' the ability for a member to have their own complete unlimited Forum (with categories) on thier personal profile. I then (with Paul's help) turned OFF member profiles page forums for all regular members- but "Forums" still has that function, as do Admins. Thus, my ning forums all reside within the member called "Forums" profile...but it's not too noticeable that "Forums" is actually a member. I only describe this so you can understand that setup.

But if you want threaded, then Paul's thoughts on importing your ning forums into a Group sounds like it might work for you particularly well. I am intrigued by it as well, as it sounds logical to me.

New Ning To Jamroom Support Forum

Ning To Jamroom

Hi Denis I remember you from years ago on ning Creators forum!

Filezilla is not too hard to figure out.

Denis don't worry if it's only a dozen or so files that the ning archiver was unable to download- i had that too and it didn't seem to mess up anything in the process. If it's hundreds then maybe contact ning support.

Remember to NOT delete your Ningarchive folder from your server after you have run the JR Import functions. It needs to remain there on your server.
