Asking for input - New Header and Menu concept

Ning To Jamroom

Most of the code for this in the Slate skin is in header.tpl and desktop_header_menu.tpl, correct? Always helpful - for me - to fork an existing working codebase.

Brian -

Tested this and it works like a charm. Enabled it for most user quotas. This is going to be a real help for my members.

Thanks again. A Lot!

going live on new domain in hours need clarification on new base url tool

Ning To Jamroom

The JR install is in what will be thechocolatelife.com/ and not in any sub-directory.

The only line I need to change the config.php file is the base URL file.

Do I need to run the rebase URL utility from within the Jamroom ACP?

paul:

You'll need to edit the /data/config/config.php file appropriately and delete caches.
If you're using a recent version of jrNingImport that doesn't have the Manage Media tool, use the new Update Base URL tool to change all imported instances of greentechnologyforums.com in text strings to dreadolockssite.com
Then optionally use the Delete Media tool to save a load of disk space by deleting redundant archive files.
If you want, let me know when you're ready to do these NingImport tool operations and I'll check your site over just to make sure that is what you need to do.

Paul - getting ready to make the move. Would appreciate help being walked through - before Monday. I am assuming that all this should be done before I change the nameserver over to Arvixe. I will get the SSL done after I make the move.

Currently at http://www.thechocolatelife.info/thechocolatelife/
add-on domain is thechocolatelife.thechocolatelife.info IIRC

New domain will be http://www.thechocolatelife.com/

Event calendar feature requests

Ning To Jamroom

thechocolatelife:
I did customize the event template - I added a link to a website and changed some language.

Commented out the line and the duplicate disappeared like a charm.

Brian -

The Attended and Calendar Icon are showing up in Blogs for some reason. Did you intend them to show up there?

Helping Members Make the Switch

Ning To Jamroom

I changed the title of my About blog on the Home Page and plan to use it as a place to help members make the transition. The first blog points members to a new Forum section - FAQs on using the site.

You can see it here :: http://www.thechocolatelife.info/thechocolatelife/clay/forum

(The URL will change over the next 24-48 hours to http://www.thechocolatelife.com/ in case you have problems reaching it. Inside the FAQs Forum are some important topics.

One covers new features, another covers changes in functionality. One is for reporting bugs. One is for working with images and galleries.

I have made the decision that a lot of functionality is going to be missing to members who don't move out of the default import quota (which I renamed " Unassigned ") so there is an FAQ that talks just about missing features and functionality.

This is something that might be helpful to other community creators and moderators making the switch from Ning to Jamroom. I don't have any problems with people using the idea (and as much text as they want - but you should change it to match your voice and reflect how your site may run differently from mine).

Cheers!
:: Clay

Duplicate image in first two positions in image galleries

Ning To Jamroom

brian:
thechocolatelife:
I just checked and all the images embedded in blog posts are served from Ning. Now that's going to be a lot of work to fix if it's at all possible.

Hopefully Paul will see this to confirm, but "inlined" images in imported items are looked for on import, and the URL is rewritten to reference the local Ning_Media folder.

Paul is that correct?

Thanks!

Brian -

I did a much closer inspection and I could only see one image where the URL was not re-written. I updated that by hand. All good.

Account Name / Member Name confusion (or is it just me?)

Brain - in Gallery module.
Problem reappears.

Problems are always reappearing for me as well when I leave my brain in the gallery module.
lololol...

My husband's name is Brian and he regularly gets things addressed to "Brain". In fact, when he was a little boy he excitedly sent away for 100 pencils embossed with his name... and they all arrived saying "Brain". lolololol!

Brian -

I have had an Adobe ID (email address) for at least three years.

I created an App and generated a Client Secret and a Client ID and wrote them down in a safe and secure place.

I should be good to go when you say it's ready.
