Does the "normal user" group category include "power users"?

I'd set it to "All users (including logged-out)". That's what I've done in the past and it works ok.
Remember that the field group option is 'multiple-choice' so its setup is very flexible.

Hi Brian - This is fairly straightforward to do and useful for Jamroom site managers to know about and understand. I can do it for you (for a modest fee) and then explain what I've done so that you can begin to understand these Jamroom features. Open a ticket with your site URL and admin login.
Do you want the audio still to show and be streamable, and only available for purchase after the set date, or not shown at all to normal users?
