Try setting a third truncate parameter to 'true' so as to force an absolute truncation (not on the nearest word boundary) - http://www.smarty.net/docsv2/en/language.modifier.truncate.tpl
So in line 18 of the above code, {$item.gallery_title} becomes something like {$item.gallery_title|truncate:18:"":true}

Yes, and that is what is happening when I just tried it on my dev site.Is it repeatable your end? Are you doing anything different than using the /user/create form and setting the Create Profile option?

Get the latest version of the module. The 'pen' icon showing to all users and not just the group owner has been fixed (though if clicked, users would still have had the option to only mail their own groups).

Yes - just enable the module by quota, then group creators/owners in enabled quotas will be able to email their group members.

Try to avoid pasting html that includes script tags directly into the html editor. It was something within one of those tags that broke things. We do have extensive checking withing SiteBuilder to catch these errors before anything is saved but looks like you pasted something that slipped through. We are studying your code to work out what it was so that it doesn't happen again.

Worked it out - the 'Start Here' widget.
Have cleared that widget down and your site is back so now just need to work out why your code broke things and make sure it can't happen again.
