Examples of more Jam Room communites?

Off Topic

BenArion:
Yeah! =) Hope to see some more sites... as it will inspire me more to Jump on board later on... The time will come =)
I see that Ning and a lot of their member sites are still pretty flakey. If you still have access to your Ning site be sure to grab your archive, and keep it up to date going forward.

Examples of more Jam Room communites?

Off Topic

There are a few sites on that link, and there are plenty more out there, so hopefully some of their owners will add to this thread. Of course, hopefully you realise that you are looking at a Jamroom community now? All of jamroom.net is built on stock JR modules, available to all :-)

Any Other Templates?

Design and Skin Customization

Yes - Just tried it again and its still there.
Presumably you can't and I guess that is part of the ongoing issues Ning are having with their servers?
Where are you - I'm in the UK. Perhaps its just routing issues they are having?

Some Questions On Future Migration =) (From NING)

Ning To Jamroom

Thanks ;-)
When you're ready to try Jamroom out, just spin up a 14 day free trial server via your Hosting Control Panel here - https://www.jamroom.net/benarion/hosting/overview

Have taken a quick look and yes, that site would be fairly easy to replicate with SiteBuilder and some CSS editing. If you want to send me a login as a support ticket I can take a proper look around to see what is needed and how it might be done.

Ning To Jamroom

Not sure how ranking might be affected in the short term, but with Jamroom you have full control over your page meta tags and we also have a SiteMap module which dynamically creates and maintains full sitemap.xml files so that a new site and subsequent changes to it should be indexed pretty quickly.

Some Questions On Future Migration =) (From NING)

Ning To Jamroom

BenArion:
HI! Cool to be here!
Just wanted to know...
1. Will the "URL" structure be the same, so all the Google Indexed URLS are the same?
2. Can I have a temporary URL until i switch the DNS?
3. Is it simple to Add "GOOGLE ADS" embeds on the site, wherever you want? At the top of every page etc?
THANKS!
1) No, but we do have a free module specifically developed for Ning migrants that can partly address this issue. It can be configured to generically redirect incoming urls to the Jamroom equivalent, for instance http://mysite.com/groups (Ning) => http://mysite.com/group (Jamroom), or http://mysite.com/members (Ning) => http://mysite.com/member (Jamroom).

2) Yes. With Jamroom Hosted you created a Jamroom installation with your target (primary) domain - mysite.com, say - and the site is initially accessible as the 'secondary' domain - mysitecom.jamroomhosting.com. At any time, but usually when site development is complete and you are ready to go live, point your domain name servers to Jamroom Hosted and switch the site to its primary domain. It will then be accessible at mysite.com (once the name server change has propagated).

3) Yes - Most of our skins allow for GoogleAds in their configuration (just add your Google ID). Alternatively, just paste any ad script into the templates where you want the ad to show, or, if using SiteBuilder, paste the script into a 'code widget'.

Hope that helps

Custom User Group

Design and Skin Customization

I don't think this is possible with something custom as user groups and their permissions are deeply embedded within Jamroom's core code.
What might be possible though is to put these 'approval only' admins in their own quota then exclude the profile update and delete buttons from them with template code. However, if the admin did know how to build the profile/user update urls, he could still enter them directly and do updates. Having said that, a simple custom module to 'listen' for these forms and redirect if a member of the 'approval only' quota would be straightforward to build.

Quote: I was going to do the 14 day trial but it wants my credit card and I don't have the $19.00 until next Thursday.
Your credit card will not be charged until the end of the 14 day trial period. If before then you decide that Jamroom isn't for you, just delete your server and no charges will be made.

Quote: As for modifying the corners, I mean rounded with leaves on them. (It's a "grove"). The colors are interchangeable but there is no way to have graphics, just color. Like this site here, that we are on, it's just color and all the corners are fairly straight cut. I need to be able to have a basic outline for each block that I create. I want the blocks to have one background and the site to have another.
This can likely all be done with some CSS editing on your site. Can you point us to your Ning site so that we can see what you want to achieve?
Thanks
