Bug or ?

Using Jamroom

Steps are:
* create a new user
* go to the dashboard -> pending
* delete the user

EXPECTED:
The user would be deleted

ACTUAL:
get an "invalid profile id - no data for profile found" error.

Correct? I'll go look now.

Explaining the Sign up form, a two-way problem, and a possible two-in-one solution

Using Jamroom

researchcooperative:.....On the other hand, I don't want to be dependent on costly developers for every revision of the site content and for responses to every upgrade, which is why I am hoping for Site-Builder like facilitation for the critical form-designing and publishing steps....

The Form Designer is amazingly powerful and unrestricted. I understand you want some more restrictions on it to make it seam simpler, I'll try again with documenting it as is while thinking about how to inhibit it into a different format.

--edit--

Have you seen this doc:

Docs: "HowTo: Form Designer + Aparna = Custom Page Module with RSS feed"
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/howto/2463/howto-form-designer-aparna-custom-page-module-with-rss-feed

It goes into a lot of detail about customizing form designer output.

I'll keep thinking about how to build an interface that generates code for non-coders.

Explaining the Sign up form, a two-way problem, and a possible two-in-one solution

Using Jamroom

researchcooperative:.....The JR system seems designed by default to hide information rather than to make it public. Why the bias? Why not design the system to be just as easily public as it is private, without asking Admins to make their own special hand-made templates, etc.....

You add a field to a form, then you choose where you want that to display.

Form Designer collects information. Templates display information.

As soon as we put a default template in, then it becomes something that needs to be changed if its un-liked. If we leave it to you to put in, then you get it how you like it.

True, we could decide on one structure for jamroom and go from the premise "you can remove whats there and replace it with something else" but thats not as nice as "here's the base, build it out however you like."

like in a building, putting a shower in the corner of a room and saying you can remove it if you want this room to be a bedroom. Once the shower is in the room the decision to remove it becomes a bigger one.

Explaining the Sign up form, a two-way problem, and a possible two-in-one solution

Using Jamroom

researchcooperative:.... Is it possible to set up an autofill function from the Sign up form to profile form fields in the new user's chosen quota?

An auto-fill function might be useful for three inter-connected reasons:

What's an auto-fill function? In the form designer you have the option of putting in default values when you create the field.

Soundcloud looses $44 milion

Off Topic

Don't think it will go under, they will ask for more investment, some investors will think its a good idea and they will get the money they need.

I posted it because its quite related to us.

When I read it it seamed to outline yet another service on the internet that is free because someone else is paying for it.

Investors put money into soundcloud so that they can grow and become a leading player in the space. The reason they can grow is because they can offer for free what someone needs to pay for.

So in our space when we think about running a site that makes money or is at least stable we think "money coming in needs to be less than money going out" but the big guy setup sooooo differently.

Amazon, soundcloud, youtube many others are all "give it away for free until we're big, then figure out if there's a way to make money".

Thought it was interesting in a "how do I make my community stable" kind of perspective.

Sendy.co

Off Topic

Its easy to confuse me when things aren't spelled out in steps to follow ;)

What lists would you use for your community?
* each of the quotas
* each of the member levels
* a signup to specific lists for certain email autoresponders
*.....?

does sendy have an autoresponder type thing in it? couldnt locate the user docs for the system

* send day 1
* send day 2
* send day 3
* send day 10
* send day 15
....

???

Sendy.co

1. The jr newsletter module can do that.

I've built a module that updates the needed DB info but the user still needs to login to the admin area like its a different section. Once you're there you're not in jamroom anymore, so there's currently very little difference in having it as a module vs having it installed on the same server..

The only way to connect the two would be some tools in the module that allowed lists to be built for sendy into sendy's database of users in jamroom.

Not sure about how the creation of those lists would be most useful though.

Problems with the Search Function

Genosis

Try rebuilding the search index:
ACP -> MODULES -> LISTING -> SEARCH -> TOOLS -> REBUILD INDEX

"rebuild search index"

See if that fixes it.
