How to edit and translate genres and Categories?
Using Jamroom
brian:
Yep - I understood you - how I outlined it is how it works. It's important to understand that genres don't live on their own - they are part of the data for a song. So to CHANGE a genre, just enter the new genre you want that song to use and it will be changed. There's no "editing" of genres.
Well, by entering a new genre while uploading an audio file, will it replace (modify/update) the old genre or will it create a new one (a separate one)?
So, How to completely delete/remove an existing genre created when uploading a file, if I don't want it to show in the system or to be used by users anymore?
As genres are part of the data for a song and as song titles can be edited, genres should have been editable too. Maybe the Dev Team should have thought about it (Just a suggestion).
brian:
You would just to make sure the existing genres are present in the OPTIONS for the select and text field (directions on doing that are in the HELP drop down for the options field in the form designer).
I must confess that i understood anything of your reply. it seems to me that right now, there is no way for the Form Design to pick an existing genre and to add it to the list of genre that will be created. right? (I am just trying to understand).
So, the only solution should probably be to delete the single genre created while uploading an audio file and create a list of pre-exist genre. Now, how to delete a genre as asked earlier?
brian:
Yeah I think you could do it that way - the key here is understanding that the genre for an audio item is another piece of data on the audio item (just like the title, length, etc) - it does not live separately from the audio item, so if you need different genres they will need to be entered as options in the form designer (if you want them to pre-exist for users to select from).
Will it make any sens having genre or category duplication? If a site has 4 languages installed, it will end up having a lot of genres: 4 genres, one for each language version.
Also, e.g. some words like "conference" in english is still "conférence" in french. We will end up have 2 "conference" genres/categories. That will confuse and mislead users.
Running a multilingual JR site is more challenging than I thought. Also it has so many technical limitation right now. Hope things will be improved in future Developments.
Thanks
