Video Genre Field

Using Jamroom

Well, not all of us are running JR as an artist/musician-based CMS where user input infos or upload files. Some of us are running JR in a very different configuration and with different purposes. We have set everything from the ACP and we are the ones uploading audio/video files fom the backend. I think the best approach to this genres/categories translation problem is to duplicate them. E.g: 4 languages will mean 4 same genre/categories in 4 different languages. It just doesn't make any sens to have them remains in the language in which they have been crated while the site language changes. Anyway thanks.

Awesome Brian. Thanks a lot. The same applies for Facebook fan pages and any text placed directly into the template, right?

Hello,

Can someone show me how to properly show a content acconding to a language?

E.g:

if lang = es-ES, show...Text 1
if lang = fr-FR, show...Text 2
etc

I would like to show a specif template logo image according to the language. I have some text on the logo image that should be change a according to the language.

I would like to do the same with the Facebook Fan box. I have 3 Facebook page. Same post/news but in different languages.

Thanks

I definitely think that the genre/category translation possibility should be added as a core feature for the reasons mentioned in my previous post.

Instead of letting the users manually add them, they should be preset by the admin like in Youtube (maybe in a form of a select list). JR4 used to be like that. It will make the genre/category translation easier. It will also avoid typo errors by users when creating/entering them.

Thanks

Thanks Douglas. I will go and check the tutorial.

By the way, can audio/video genres/categories be translated?

I think it doesn't make any sens at all to have genres/categories remained in English while using the site in any other language.

How to properly use genres/categories in a multilingual system?

Thanks

douglas:
I've just did a push that has instructions and modified templates in case anyone wants to use categories for videos.

I've also setup a genre and category search for music, videos, music charts and video charts in the ProJam templates.

Let me know if anyone see any issues with this.

@Douglas

I have been missing the categories/Genres for audio and videos too. I am a great fan of them. They help structure the site well and keep things organized. Even major media Sites like Youtube use Categories. I have spent hours and hours searching for them on my site. Sad they have been removed from JR5.

I am also interested in using them. What are your modifications about? How and where to apply them? Thanks in advance. I am using the ProJam Lite Template.

brian:
Genre really only makes sense in relation to music videos, which may or not be the case with most sites.

On the other hand, I think what Brian has said also makes sens. Genres do not really makes sens on most sites, but "Categories" do!

Well, I am still studying both approaches (Brian's idea and yours).

brian:
The site admin can always add it in if they want via the Form Designer.

@Brian,

Can audio/video genres/categories created via the form Designer be translated?

Thanks.
