Proxima Question

Proxima

Let me see if I understand this correctly:

If I want to focus on the App I should install Proxima. Were Proxima will be a simple front end website (promoting the app) along with the backend. Proxima would provide the services like "hosted App" websites out there. So, if I wanted to create a dating app I would use Proxima to store the data from all the members (simple example).

If I wanted to create an App for my JR core site, I would use your soon to be released Proxima Bridge or would I install JR + Proxima + Proxima Bridge?

Proxima Question

Proxima

The Proxima software looks really interesting. I've read most of the information about it but I guess I'm not fully wrapping my head around the concept.

I would like to have a JR site and create an app for that site. I'm not an app developer, but I'm starting to study about creating apps in Corona.

So, as an example, lets say I have an existing JR site with all the modules installed. The site is populated with tons of users and content. I'm looking at creating an app for that JR site:

1. Would I install Proxima and use that as the interface between my app and the JR site - so I would have JR core + Proxima + app OR (2)?

2. Is Proxima a separate install that works with JR OR (3)?

3. Does Proxima replace JR core?

It appears that Proxima has it's own front-end which leads me to believe that it's replacing JR core?

Let's say I don't have a site setup and I'm beginning development of both a website and a app which data will be shared between the website and app.

1. Should I just install Proxima along with all the modules?

2. Should I install JR core and Proxima? Or does Proxima replace JR core?

Sorry for the questions. If I had a better understanding of the mobile space maybe I would understand Proxima. I believe I understand (maybe I don't) that Proxima is providing a link between the data and the app, I'm just not understanding how JR core and Proxima work together or if they're supposed to be used together. I'm just plain confused.

Search and Passwords

Jamroom Developers

Might be a great paid module for you guys at Jamroom. I know I would probably purchase it if my client decides to go forward with the project. Actually, I would also probably purchase it for my personal license because what user doesn't want to search for other users in their area... that's just being social (meet at the pub!). :)

Search and Passwords

Jamroom Developers

1. I don't know if it's something you guys would consider creating for JR. I haven't had any time to develop anything - busy building sites for people. I though there was a long thread on the old forum about people wanting the zipcode radius search - it would be very useful for anyone who wanted to create a dating style site - like my client is requesting.

2. Just an ability to check the users entered password against a database of common passwords and reject the users ability to use that password. I bet some of those passwords on the list of common passwords would qualify as strong passwords (though I haven't checked them) depending on how someone setup the strong passwords module.

Search and Passwords

Jamroom Developers

I have a question and an idea.

1. Is there an ability to search by zipcode? I had a client who wanted me to setup a social site for them (dating) and wanted to know if searching by zipcode was available. I believe this was discussed on the old JR4 forum. I realize that I can just add a field for the zipcode and search for a specific zipcode, but is there a radius search ability - 10, 20, 30 miles - in JR5?

2. I read a lot of articles online about people using passwords that are on the "top 10 list of most used passwords". I was wondering if it might be good to create a module for JR which prohibited new members from using common passwords. Honestly, I've never seen a feature like this is any script I've ever worked with. Thought it might be a great addition to JR. Maybe there is a resource online which you can pull an updated list of common passwords to keep the module current with the newest "most used" passwords. In the end, it would an extra layer of security especially for a site which has users which are prone to using "password1" or "p@ssword".

FYI: Community for Sale

Jamroom Developers

I see JR just added conversion modules for NING. I just wanted to make people aware that there is a auction of Flippa for an existing NING website. I was thinking about purchasing it and converting it to JR, but I'm not really interested in the content. Price isn't too bad for an established community.

Here is the link:

Just a note: I have nothing to do with the auction and it isn't my site. Just making people aware of the auction.

JR Modules Page

Suggestions

Was looking over the modules page: https://www.jamroom.net/download/modules

On the list of modules, it doesn't seem like the short description is accepting html markup. Specifically in the Audio module description:

The Audio Support module adds
Full Audio Support
to your Jamroom site, including: - Support for converting uploaded files in...

When I clicked on the modules, the bold was bold.

Just wanted to let you know.

Development Server Control Panel

Using Jamroom

LOL yea 1-click isn't too important. Honestly, I don't even think I've ever used softaculous.

I've been using it for 2 weeks now and I have to admit, it's a pretty nice Control Panel. It doesn't support CentOS 7, but most of my servers are 6.5 anyway.
