Nginx and Jamroom

Installation and Configuration

After searching the forum, I found only 3 topics on Nginx and all three were closed. I'm going to be switching to Nginx shortly and wanted to start this topic to see if there was any updated information available about running Jamroom on Nginx.

Thanks Brian. I'll take a look at that one. Wasn't on any of the lists I looked at, but I value your opinion over any list. :)

LEMP Web Stack

Off Topic

A friend referred this little gem to me. I haven't tried it out yet, but it looks really interesting.

paul:
If you are looking at a profile as an admin you will see all the tabs, as the profile owner would.

You're right. I had to look at the profile as another user on the site. I was looking at the profile as the profile owner. I knew about the admin being able to see everything.

Logged in as a member looking at another member, it looks like the there are 3 modules showing and not populated: Audio, Video, and Forum - I don't have Youtube, Vimeo, or Soundcloud setup yet and I don't own: Doc Center, any Groups modules, Issue Tracker, Support Tickets, or Service Shop - not sure if those are site or profile modules.

Yea, it could totally be done with a template modification. I guess I was just thinking that something standard in the profile.php file for all modules where a user could turn off visibility (public profile) and list inclusion (public site) to that module/section. Maybe a new tab in the Profile Settings for individual module "Privacy". So, instead of the user having to set the privacy on the entire profile he/she could also set the privacy on each module.

1. Global visibility
2. Private
3. Profile Owner and Followers
4. Profile Owner and Followers w/o site list inclusion

That would allow more flexibility for, let's say, the forum module where the member only wants it available to his followers but wants everything else in the profile available to anyone. With the privacy setting on the module it would allow more flexibility for the user as far as what he/she wants to appear in his/her profile.

I'm looking at a profile of a member on my testing site and every profile tab is showing even though there is no content in the any of the modules. I can give you a screen shot if you want.

Sure, if I have set not to "show in profile" the tab won't appear. But then the user, in that quota, doesn't have access to the module in the profile at all.

Profile Options

Suggestions

I've been playing around with JR pretty much FT now. One thing I noticed which I wanted to make a suggestion about was the ability for a user to turn off items in his/her profile.

One of the things I like about Facebook is that I can set what I want to appear in my profile - if I want to hide the images, video, etc. I can with the click of a button. I think there should be an option to hide / deactivate modules if the user wants too. Maybe there is an option for this that I couldn't find???

Obviously, if the system has a bunch of quotas - depending on which quota the user is in will depend on what modules the user has access too. If a system has only 1 quota which offers everything, everything will be active even if the user hasn't populated the section with any information. The user should have the option to "turn off" what he/she doesn't want to see. Maybe the user only wants to use the timeline and the Gallery? Maybe a profile visibility / profile active feature option?

Just my 2 cents.

Recommend App Building Software / Platform

paul:
I did 'dabble' with a few app building packages a year or so ago but didn't take it very far. Appery was one of them and I do recall it being one of the easier ones to use, though iirc was concerned that it was a bit limited it was it could do.
As I said, didn't delve very deep so could be wrong.

I haven't really tried any of them yet... it's one of those things, which I'm sure you can understand, where you don't want to spend too much time working with one of the "bad ones" only to learn that another one was better. What drew me to appery.io was the ability to use the restful with proxima. I'm sure others have the same ability. It's also hard getting an good sense of what's good on the market. All the sites I've visited just have a list - it's like trying to pick out a web hosting provider and not knowing too much about hosting!

I don't either. I thought maybe Brian had some knowledge since he had that mobile backend business a few years back. I was actually looking at appery.io and it's looks pretty straightforward. I figured I would throw it out there and see if anyone had a suggestion. :-)

I was looking online for app building services and I found this article:

I did a demo of appery.io and it looked quite nice.

@brian do you have an recommendations?
