Google will begin ranking mobile-friendly sites higher starting April 21

Off Topic

Big changes to Google’s search algorithms are coming: beginning April 21, the company will increase the ranking of sites that are mobile-friendly and surface app results much higher.

The company says that the change will have a “significant impact” on all mobile searches in all languages worldwide, but as a result Google says that users will find higher quality results.

Along with this change, Google will start to use more information from indexed apps as a factor when ranking search results for users that are signed-in and have the app installed.

These changes are great news for mobile users as it should help motivate those sites that still don’t have a mobile site to actually build one. Google started highlighting mobile-friendly sites in results last year.

Site admins who want to test their site’s mobile compatibility can use Google’s tools to quickly evaluate the status of a page.

I'll have to admit, I started on Dreamweaver way back. I have CS too, but I haven't touched it in quite awhile.

Brackets / Atom

Off Topic

I just moved from Aptana to Brackets and I'm really loving it. I used PHPstorm for awhile and it was really nice. I have to keep my expenses down, another $99 and $49 a year on top of servers, domain names, existing software... I'm getting tapped out.

I picked Brackets over Atom because of the Adobe integration. Though, I see Atom as an editor that's really going to take off. There are a lot of people who use GitHub and will probably use that product because they know GitHub is going to put out a quality product.

Anyway, thought I'd throw a thread up there for the people who want a free editor.

Brian - I'll check out Vim - didn't see that on any of the lists I was looking at online.

PHPstorm is a great editor and is promoted by the JR staff. The only hangup I have with PHPstorm is that it's paid software... not everyone has $$$ to pay. If you've got tons of cash and want to go with a paid solution, phpstorm is excellent software. If you don't like to spend a lot of cash, check out the solutions below.

BRACKETS

There are some great open source editors out there. I've started using Brackets. My love for Brackets is building everyday! Brackets is made by Adobe and has a ton of features. Check out the video below to find out more information.

ATOM

Atom is a fairly new editor created by GitHub. It's very similar to sublime text. It has a ton of features and works very well with GitHub (obviously).

Second Coming: The First HTTP Update in 16 Years, HTTP/2, Is Finished

HTTP is one of the most fundamental standards on the Internet and now, after 16 years, it's finally getting a facelift. Make way for HTTP/2.

The new standard was finally finished earlier today, according to a blog by Mark Nottingham, the chair of the IETF HTTP Working Group. It will now simply pass on through some editorial stages before being published as a new standard to be used in browsers and web services everywhere.

Jamroom Developers

Again I would be a buyer on a module that used the smarty code to inject the last weeks content on the site into an email template for sending each week. I know it's not on the roadmap but I think it would be a good seller

Sounds like you're looking for a Newsletter module?

That would be prefect! Having the specific template file would narrow it down to what I needed to update.
