Changelog Request / Suggestion

Suggestions

I'm in the process of creating a custom template. One of the things I'm worried about is the updates to the modules. Everyday there seems to be an update to a module and I fear that I'm going to update a module and break my site's template.

For each module I see that there is a change log which is very helpful in understanding what was changed on a basic level. Since I'm not using one of the Jamroom themes I can't use the compare to see what has changed or needs to be updated in the templates.

I would like to request a couple additions to the changelog. Maybe there already there, if they are, please let me know.

1. Security Priority. Since I'll need to check each one of my templates for each modules that is being updated, having a security rating in the changelog would help me determine if I can wait to make the module update or not. I believe the other day there were 7 modules that I needed to update. It would be great if I knew which one I should update first vs. which one could wait. Having a security rating would allow me to put off modules with a low rating and focus on the modules with a high rating.

2. Template / Variable Modification. Maybe this could just be a "Yes" or "No" in the changelog which would tell me that some variable has changed in the template. Obviously, my CSS and HTML is going to be different. But if some variable has changed then having this would let me know that I need to check my template against the provided module templates to see what variable has changed.

3. Template / Variable Add. Another "Yes" or "No" letting me know that a new variable has been added to a template.

4. Anything other information which would provide a better workflow for a custom template creator.

There are going to always be updates, I just don't want to worry when I click the update button... even though most of the time it will be tested on my local system before I update to my live system.

Thanks!

Jamroom Hosting - looking for a few beta testers

Jamroom Hosting

brian:I would recommend not doing this - there's no need for Arvixe to be "in control" of your domain - an actual domain registrar should be where you keep your domain. I've used Namecheap for A LONG time and can highly recommend them:

https://www.namecheap.com/

If anyone is reading this, do what Brian said and USE NAMECHEAP! They are the best IMO.

If you are going to transfer a domain or register a new one - make sure to do a Google Search for - "Namecheap February 2015 Discount Code". Having that code will save you $$$ on registering a name or transferring a name. Discount codes don't usually apply to renewals.

When you checkout there will be a box on the right to enter the code. Once you enter it your final balance will reflect the discount.

Multiple Sites Modules Question

Installation and Configuration

Thanks. I think my confusion lies on this site vs. the marketplace of the script. There isn't an option to purchase the modules again on this site once its been purchased, it only shows that it has already been purchased... where as in the marketplace of the installed site it would show me needing to purchase it again.

I mentioned JR4 because at this point everything I own came over from JR4 and what I purchase then - with the addition of your $99 package special you ran when you were switching from JR4 to JR5.

Thinking about it, I would have rather taken a 1 or 2 year VIP membership than spending the money for the upgrade script to begin with. Maybe you guys would consider a discount for long time members of JR? Though, I totally understand that you've got to make money and pay the bills. :)

Multiple Sites Modules Question

Installation and Configuration

I had a couple of questions about the purchasing modules for sites.

1. It's my understanding that each module purchased is only allowed to be used on one install? So, without the top level subscription here, an owner will have to purchase the modules again for each site running JR.

2. I've only installed my JR license on a local machine. I have a license for the modules converted over from JR4. I'm a little confused about how to purchase the module again if I need it for another site. If someone wasn't going to go with a subscription option for unlimited modules, would they have to have a separate user on this site for each install?

3. If a person who has the VIP Unlimited - would they have to use the same email cred in each site they installed?

4. Local machine - if I wanted to have multiple local testing machines running JR would I be able to use my license (non-VIP unlimited) with all the purchased modules multiple times / multiple installs?

Even though I'm going to purchase the VIP Unlimited Membership, I found it confusing how the modules are linked to the license. I'm assuming that if someone wanted to purchase every module for each license (even though that would be kinda stupid because the cost is so low for the VIP membership) they would have to setup a new user here for each license so they could purchase the modules again.

Maybe I'm totally confused??

Thanks.

Template Folders

Design and Skin Customization

I'm in the process of building a custom template. I want to organize the skin folder into sub-folders for each module / section. As an example, I want to have the profile templates in a folder called profile/ versus having the templates in the root of the skin folder. I would also like to do this for the module templates. Is this possible? If so, where would I add the /profile/?

Thanks!

Nice. Do you have a rough idea what the prices are going to be for the hosting? Just so I understand correctly, you're going to be offering VPSs or full dedicated boxes or both?

Quotas Module

Suggestions

brian:
jimmyk:Yea, that's one of the first things I noticed about JR5 now that I'm actually working with it. I love how everything is modular in the new system, but thought to myself, it's going to take me a long time to add quota permissions to the modules if I need to create a quota "on the fly" or have 5 quotas on my system.

If you have a LOT of quotas, and need to each have to very different settings, then yes - I could see it taking a bit. But isn't this really a "one time" thing? After you're setup how helpful is the module going to be?

I hate spending a lot of energy on modules that are used once then forgotten unless they offer a real significant advantage.

Good point. After the initial setup, yes it wouldn't really need to be modified unless you added a new quota. Though, having this might help new people using JR who might not be able to remember every module they have on their system. So, it could serve a dual purpose: showing admins which modules are active for which quotas and a general list of all the modules which apply to quotas on the system.

It's up to you guys what modules you want to create. Just throwing it out there.
