How to deal with human spammers?

Using Jamroom

gary.moncrieff:
You could also maybe try a probation system, limit what new users can do from the start and see if that helps.

The Spam Blocker supports this - it works really well:

Welcome to the new Jamroom.net!

Announcements

I will be posting a blog entry about all the new things we are rolling out today, but wanted to post a quick note here in the forum about the new site design, which by now you've (obviously) seen.

There's quite a number of items that are being worked on on the backend, and we've got some cool things to talk about, but we hope you like the new design and layout.

Thanks!

still slow sorts/page loads on seamless pages

Installation and Configuration

I should add that there is some DS optimizations coming in 5.3.4 that might help you a little bit (as it deals with results optimizations from very large search item calls, which Seamless uses) - so after 5.3.4 see if it gets better for you.

Pending user problem

Using Jamroom

AndyF:
Lately, all new profiles are still showing as pending on their profile pages EVEN after approving them as members.
Simple fix?

I have not seen this here - are you all up to date on JR?

still slow sorts/page loads on seamless pages

Installation and Configuration

soaringeagle:
well true but i want a highest rated, and a newest posted lists too
is there any way to speed up the ordering in the db tables

No - if you want speed on these lists, do not use Seamless. It's already optimized as fast as it can go.

seemless pages display only asci charachters in chrome! (bug report)

Installation and Configuration

This has nothing to do with Seamless - you have something on your site (maybe a virus?) that is watching for Chrome and inserting itself into the page.

If it WAS seamless you would see this same output in all browsers.

You need to check your site and templates.

Why Don't Codes Render?

Design and Skin Customization

Ken Rich:
On a new module created with Aparna, if one adds an editor to the form, what must one do to get embed codes to render?
For example should produce a player but instead only the code for the player displays.

Make sure that the "Convert Embed Tags" option is enabled in your quotas.

Let me know if that helps.

Media player doesn't play

Using Jamroom

Eddy:
Sorry, the problem is with the latest version of "Opera" and NOT Jamroom, it plays just fine on Chrome, IE etc.
Eddy

Should work on Opera - do you have a URL to the song that was not playing? I can load it up here and see if I can spot the issue.

Thanks!

Guestbook counter

Using Jamroom

yeah this is going to require some updates in Genosis - while I tried to design the Genosis skin to work with a wide range of JR modules, the Guestbook modules is one of our very oldest, and will need a custom setup to have the counts properly supported in Genosis.

I'll get that updated and a new version out as soon as I can.

Thanks!

Illegal characters in URL

Using Jamroom

Melih:
Hello,
I may have a wrong information about that but shouldn't iconv command at jrCore_url_strings function in util.php transform the illegal characters to a similar character in respect to appearance?

iconv tries to do this, but some characters do NOT have a URL safe character that is associated with them and will be removed instead. Also - rawurlencode cannot encode all characters to be URL safe either, so some may be removed as well.

If you have a URL that you feel it is removing characters from, let me know the URL (both what it is supposed to be and what you're getting) and I can check it out.

Thanks!
