Profile Tweaks - Tweak

Design and Skin Customization

Do you mean pull in one of the skin screenshots? That would probably be doable.

Thanks!

A Private Family Tree Site

Genosis

Welcome to Genosis!

xsaintzx:
Hi,
I'm planning to create a web based, private family tree site.
If I create my family tree using MyHeritage Family Tree Builder, then I can import the tree to my hosting using Genosis right?

Correct - as long as MyHeritage Family Tree Builder can export a GEDCOM it should work. I've not personally used that product before, so if you see any issues let me know - a sample GEDCOM file would help me as well. One thing I have learned building a GEDCOM importer is that even though GEDCOM is a standard, most programs have small differences in the way that they write and export a GEDCOM file (some adhere to the specification much better than others).

Quote:
Will each family member have their own account login and can change their profile details by their own? Or everything has to be done by admin?

After you have done your GEDCOM import, click on the Admin -> Create User Account link. This will let you create a new user account and "link" it to a profile in the Tree - that way they can log in and check out their own profile. At the same time you can grant them Researcher status if they will be helping you in building the tree.

Let me know if that helps.

Thanks!

Tag Cloud - Module specific

Design and Skin Customization

the jrTags_cloud function lets you use searches just like in jrCore_list - i.e.

{jrTags_cloud search="tag_module = jrAudio" height=300}

Or with multiple modules:

{jrTags_cloud search="tag_module in jrVideo,jrAudio,jrSoundCloud" height=300}

Let me know if that helps.

Thanks!

Interpreting the 'Create' and 'Update' profile forms in Form Designer tool

Design and Skin Customization

researchcooperative:
On the Form Design page for profiles (YOUR_SITE/profile/form_designer), when I first saw the option to switch between profile/create and profile/update, I thought this referred to Admin creating a profile form, and then updating the design of that form later.

Now I think that the terms 'create' and 'update' refer to their function for users -- from the user point of view.

When users first create a profile, they will see the 'create' form. Later, when they want to update information they will see the 'update' form. If information entered into in the profile creating form should never be changed, then Admin can decide to make that information inaccessible in the Update form.

If this interpretation is correct, when new members are signing up, they can be asked to fill in a minimum number of fields. This way we can avoid annoying them with too many fields and questions.

Later, if they are asked to update their information, they may see a more detailed or complete set of fields.

Correct - Form Designer is only for the FORMS - it has nothing to do with the display of data.

Quote:
In general terms, what is the process for getting new members to update their profile details, or giving them the opportunity at least?

I'm not sure there IS a process. How does any site get you to add more information about yourself to the site?

Quote:
Is an opportunity to update profile details presented to the user automatically each time they login? Or do they have to look for the way to do this deep in their account settings?

They need to look into their settings. If you set a form field to REQUIRED, then they will not be able to save any changes without filling in a field. I would highly recommend NOT pestering or forcing your users to give you additional information unless it is something you require for the functionality of your site. You will drive away users if you do so.

Quote:
Can administrators send users automatically to their account profile update page after login?

There is no setting for this at this time.

Profile forms - preview of the public view

Suggestions

researchcooperative:
In principle, profile forms can be displayed in public, but Admin (and profile owners) must take various steps to make this happen.

There is no steps that need to be taken. You raised this point in your ticket to us as well, and it is not an issue. The default for Jamroom profiles is globally visible. Unless you have explicitly changed the default profile privacy, then all profiles are public.

Quote:
When designing forms, and filling them out, it would be useful to be able to see a preview (with a single click) of how each form will look in public view -- if the intention is to make all profiles in a quota public, or if a user wants to make an individual profile visible to others.

This is something you would need to do custom for your site - Jamroom does not know "how" you want your profiles displayed, nor does it know WHAT fields you want displayed on your profile, so there's no way for it to generate a preview.

Then only way this COULD work is if Jamroom forced all profiles to look the same and use the exact same templates, which would destroy the site owner's ability to fully customize the profile to suit their needs.

Event Calendar with Facebook import

Using Jamroom

SelfmadeClub:
Hello!

I don“t know if this is possible, but it would be awesome if the user can import for example from FaceBook his Events in Jamroom, also from other Calendar like Google ...

Thanks for your time and help!
Stefan

This is not something we would ever code directly - if there is a 3rd party system that provides a standardized API for doing this type of importing, then it is something we could check out.

But there are no plans to ever work directly with Facebook.

Thanks!

Using Jamroom

researchcooperative:
Sorry. I have not seen the issue either.

I was just looking through the language section of the Group Support module (YOUR-SITE/group/admin/language) and wondered if there is a better way of expressing the error message.

Maybe it is an issue that can wait until we face the problem.

Thanks

There is a ton of error checking that you will likely never encounter in Jamroom - it is there to catch circumstances that should never arise, but in case they do it gives is an idea where the issue is.

If you actually encounter an error let us know, otherwise I would not assume that since there is a language string for it it is something you will regularly see.

Thanks!

What is the Meta Tag Browser? Glossary item request

Using Jamroom

Meta Tags are not unique to Jamroom - they are an HTML element:

The Jamroom Meta Tag Manager module allows you to create and update Meta Tags in your Jamroom:
