Converting ning urls to JR urls question...

Installation and Configuration

Strumelia:So... are you saying with that module I cannot use it with two domains for converting urls, like this way:

musicfriends.com/latest-cool-videos -> musiccrazies.com/videos

You can, but both "musicfriends.com" and "musiccrazies.com" would both have to be Jamroom sites.

Starting with a NEW domain

Jamroom Hosting

pinchepunk:Thanks, I hope to start on something soon. I like the idea of having a temp domain to begin with.

No problem - every domain you create gets a temp domain which gives you a nice place to get everything working before having to "go live" on the real domain, so it works out well :)

Thanks!

Converting ning urls to JR urls question...

Installation and Configuration

Strumelia:You mean I have to paste in each URL manually one at a time? =8-*

How would the module "know" what your old URLs are? And what you wanted them mapped to?

Quote:Ok so this is done AFTER my final ning import, continuing after I go live, and doing it 'over time' then I guess...?

Yep.

Quote:Will the 'new JR url' tend to be the same except for the ning/JR part of the url? I mean, if the ning link is dead, then one would assume there IS no corresponding JR url then yet. ?

If your domain is the same then yes. For example if you had the domain "jrtest.com" mapped to a Ning site and had a URL like:

jrtest.com/latest-cool-videos

then you could map that URL on your jamroom site - i.e.

jrtest.com/latest-cool-videos -> jrtest.com/videos

Quote:Realistically, on an active older ning site there are likely to be hundreds or thousands of such urls to be re-mapped after the fact then, correct? Tell it to me straight, I can take it.

I don't know - it depends on the URL structure of the site. In your case it looks like you are changing domains as well, so I don't think you would even need this module (or maybe I am not see what you would use it for).

Let me know if that helps.

Converting ning urls to JR urls question...

Installation and Configuration

You will want to install the URL Mapper module:

https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/networkmarket/179/url-mapper

you'll need to then manually add in the URL forwarding i.e.

/old-ning-url -> /new-jamroom-url

Let me know if that helps.

Can't embed youtube using text editor

Using Jamroom

perrie:Still not working. The funny thing is that when I go to the preview mode, it shows and when I post, it doesn't.

Sounds like it is being stripped out. Have you added:

object,param

to your Allowed HTML tags?

In "Latest Activity" what is automatically shown, and how can we control it?

Using Jamroom

Just to add what Paul has posted - if you find yourself asking "I wonder why Jamroom can't list something like I want", then it just means it's not been listed that way by default. Using {jrCore_list} you really can list almost every bit of data in almost any way you want - think of it is the swiss army knife of listing things :)

Starting with a NEW domain

Jamroom Hosting

Welcome to Jamroom!

It really doesn't matter - you can register the domain at any time. Once you have it registered, then you:

- create the new domain on your Jamroom Hosting server (this can actually be done before you own the domain) - you will get a temp domain you can use for development before having to move the domain over via DNS.

- update your Nameservers at your domain registrar to point to your Jamroom Hosting server.

- go into the domain settings and make the domain the "active" domain for the Jamroom install.

Let me know if that helps or you have any followup questions.

Hope this helps!

What exactly is the Timeline and how can it be used?

Using Jamroom

Look at my timeline here:

https://www.jamroom.net/brian/action

users that "follow" me will see my timeline entries when viewing their profile timeline (while visitors to their page will only see timeline entries for the profile owner).

This is a handy way for a user to log in and see what the profiles they follow have been up to.

It is modeled on Twitter and works very similar. What would you use Twitter for?

Hope this helps!

Page headers are not formed properly

Jamroom Developers

I would recommend resetting what ever you have been working on - if you are seeing problems with these functions then something has been corrupted in your skin. Reclone or reset back to a good skin.

None of these 3 entries output anything, so they cannot "mess up" your skin.
